Do you... Haiku?

Since virtually day one of Shuffle Function we've been soliciting Haikus. On our Thursday night show (six pm to seven pm) we are prone to solicit them via "If you have any questions, comments, insults or haikus, send them to shufflefunction@hotmail.com. Shuffle Function all one word. Shuffle Function... Pop Music... as pornography". We only ever got a few for the Thursday show, but they were pretty bloody awesome. Now I just need to find them.

Anyway, it seems that the early risers are pretty active Haiku authors, and we love them for it. Shelley and I were talking, and we thought we'd share the Haikus that we receive on our blog. I'm just posting the ones we've received via e-mail, though we've had some great ones phoned in (389-5678 or 1-800-456-7810). Those, however, are way across town and I've just had a seat so forget them for now.

For those of you playing at home, the structure of a Haiku is 5-7-5. First line five syllables, second line seven syllables, last line five. I know there are other schools that think haiku rules are for sucks, but save it for the pretentious and The Beats.

Ladies and Gentlemen, let me present our listeners!

John, the Shuffle Function Poet Laureate:

First time morning show
What could possibly happen
Listen and find out

Gabba gabba hey
play some Ramones someday soon
Gabba gabba hey

Total music geeks
request McArthur park now
come on you damn nerd

Stars Hollow is nice
The Dragonfly is open
after much waiting

Rory made a mess
when she slept with her ex Dean.
what will happen next?

Bubble Gum Music
Makes me dance with my candy
It is so groovy

On Saturday nite
please eat my banana split
It tastes pretty good

Taste my Candy Cane
Lips around my lollipop
Please... please hurry up

David:

Keith Moon was very cute
He died before Bonham first
Because he drummed best

Kris:

Keith he was the moon
That lit night skies behind us-
Bonham wasn't bright

Danny the Beatle
Was as happy as can be
in his shell of sound

Deb:

Smothers Brothers Pow!
Uncle Ernie Tour De Force!
Give The Sticks To Keith!

Chris the Dylan feller:

Zep could float sans John
The Who crash without Keith Moon.
Moon wins. Long live rock!

That's all I can find for now. I know we have some more in the archives and we'll post them as we find or receive them. I have to say that after re-reading these that it is reassuring to know that there are people out there who are almost as geeky as us.

Thanks to everyone, too, for all the postive feedback you've sent us. It really does mean an awful lot. I know some of you have e-mailed our playlists to friends around the country and we've gained a few interstate listeners as a result, so that pretty much rules, too.

Have a swell day.

So easy to rig that even a monkey can do it!

I found this link on the Air America Radio site. How can I possibly question the move to electronic voting machines when I read something like this?

I'D LIKE TO TEACH THE WORLD TO SING !!

hi ho -
Realizing that morning hours are probably not the best time for us to rattle off important dates and expect anyone to retain them, I will make a list for easy reference. So grab a pen or a crayon and mark your calendars with following dates:

Friday October 8th, POLKA TIL' YOU PUKE day on Shuffle Function!!! Shyboy Tim and Shelley will celebrate Octoberfest in the best way that they know how - POLKA.
From 6 to 8am, we will be spinning our polka records and talking polka. Email your favorites to shufflefunction@hotmail.com, or click on the comment portion of this blog, and we will try to hunt them down to play.

Friday October 8th, SHUFFLE FUNCTION PRESENTS - THE SCREENS, AT THE WHAT'S UP LOUNGE. Yes, this is the first show we've ever co-presented!!! and we are really thrilled at the opportunity to see this Minneapolis band play live. Their EP is simply amazing - the kind of raunchy pop tunes that I am completely and unapologetically addicted to - so be sure to keep the radio tuned to the morning show to hear em'. Nick from The Downshift will also be presenting We Invented Tornadoes, another great and so I've been warned, very loud band from the Twin Cities. Be sure to come down and catch the show and hob- nob with other like minded radio listeners!!

OH YEAH - Halloween is just around the corner, which can only mean one thing.
Shuffle Function Radio
Roulette!!! But we would also like to ask you, our listeners for any spooky songs you'd like to hear, and yes - Kenny G. is scary!!!

thanks a bunch - Shelley
