Jandek - the man of my dreams

Hey radio fans -

I finally got around to entering the playlists from the last few weeks, but I want to draw your attention back to the Jandek entries. Tim and I are now 5 cd's in to our "Jandek Odyssey", and it has not been what I expected. Never one to outright dislike Jandek's music, I was non the less skeptical. When we played a song off of his first cd last Friday on the morning show, I found myself singing along to the lyrics - and after just one listen!! That is incredibly telling of how powerfull his music is. So please, do check out Tim's fantastic Jandek entries, and follow the links to Corwood Industries. Open the door without peeking first..........

JANDEK... HE'S HERE...

The package has arrived.

Today I picked up a box from Corwood Industries. Plain brown cardboard, handwritten label in what I assume is Jandek's handwriting, stamped "Corwood Industries".

It was my intention to record an audio journal of the arrival and opening of the box to share on the show, detailing the environment and setting of the Jandek reveal, but -and this is not a lie- as soon as I said "I'm now going to breach the seal" the recording cut off. It just cut off. It's almost like someone (or something) does not want this moment to be recorded. Does not want this moment detailed for a permanent recording.

Inside the box: 39 Jandek releases, organized sequentially. Handwritten invoice, number 156, stating "CoRwood 0739 THRough 077 CompLete CuRRent DISCOGRAPhy. PAid iN FuLL" and it is signed "CoRwood". Also included is an order form listing the complete Jandek catalog. For any of you that are dying of curiosity, you can view an old catalog listing here.

I'm not ready to listen yet. Shelley and I are planning to set up a controlled environment to properly document and experience the recordings. I don't know what will occur. I have a sneaking suspicion that once they are all consumed, in chronological order, that there will be a brief moment of clarity in which all the secrets of the universe will suddenly be revealed, and then I will become incapacitated.

You know, like that old Twilight Zone episode.

See you later.

Shyboy

ADDITIONAL: Click here if you have missed the earlier entry about who Jandek is and my difficult history with his art.

WE INTERRUPT SCHMALTZFEST 2005 FOR THIS SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT!

It looks like the live performance of Go Home Productions' Rapture Riders is about to become reality!

Mark Vidler (aka Go Home Productions) dropped us a line to let us know that Blondie and The Doors (of the 21st century) are playing a festival at the end of the month and that Rapture Riders will become a live reality. How friggin' sweet is that?

Hey, if you have been digging GHP's mash-ups (and we know you are, based on all the feedback) you should drop him a line and let him know! Once again, the website is gohomeproductions.co.uk.

NOW... Scroll down a bit for a refresher on Schmaltzfest 2005. We're still taking your valentine and anti-valentine dedications and they have all been pretty bloody brilliant so far. It should be a very interesting show. Monday, February 14th, from six to eight a.m. on 89.7 fm, THE MAVERICK!

P.S.: Listen online at kmsu.org!

SCHMALTZFEST 2005!

So it has come to this.

Donnie and Marie are a little bit country, a little bit rock and roll, so why can't Shyboy Tim be a little bit anti-Valentine's Day and Shelley a little bit love song?

Shyboy, bitter old man that he is, is against all things Valentine's Day. He denies its validity, claiming it to be a manufactured greeting card holiday that is used to jack up flower prices and guilt people into buying candy and spending money.

Shelley thinks it's all very nice.

In any case, Monday, February 14th, Shuffle Function is marking Valentine's Day by broadcasting Schmaltzfest 2005. We are taking requests from you, the listener, that could either glorify love or stomp on valentine's day with the bitter boot of cynicism. It's all welcome here, and quite frankly a healthy dose of both may be just what the doctor ordered!

Send us your requests via e-mail to shufflefunction@hotmail.com, or call us during our morning show, Monday through Friday from six a.m. to eight a.m. CST at 507-389-5678 or 1-800-456-7810. Feel free to throw in a dedication of love to someone special or a diatribe against a violently consumerist celebration and we'll be sure to read it on the air. Advance notice is recommended so that we have time to hunt down all the stuff you wanna hear.

Shuffle Function does, however, reserve the right to edit or refuse any requests that are simply too mean spirited or ugly. I mean, c'mon...

We only just announced the show plans this morning and already the requests are pouring in, so snap to it and get them in. First come first serve.

Also, we are aware that marking Valentine's Day with love songs and dedications is the biggest cliche on the planet, so have fun with it. One thing we have learned in all the time we've been doing Shuffle Function is that our listeners always kick our butts with the great requests, ideas, and their sense of humor, so we know that you are up to the task. Here we are! Rock us like hurricanes!

It should to be a glorious celebration of love and the denial of corporate emotional blackmail.

SCHMALTZFEST 2005! MONDAY, FEBRUARY 14TH! SIX TO EIGHT A.M. CST! ONLY ON EIGHTY-NINE-SEVEN THE MAVERICK.

P.S.: Listen online at kmsu.org!
