THE FOUR YEAR ANNIVERSARY... GIVE THE GIFT OF VINYL

Just a head's up for all you morning dwellers. Monday, the 30th is Memorial Day so Shuffle Function will not be live. What we will have is two hours of special programming in preparation for our four year anniversary, which hits June 2nd.

The Line Up:

Six to seven a.m.: OUR SECOND ANNIVERSARY SHOW!
To mark year two we featured the music of the one and only BJ Snowden. BJ is a terrific lady and a wonderful songwriter, and we were lucky enough to score an interview with her. If you don't recall her music from repeated spins on the show, tune in and experience the magic. THEN GO BUY IT!

Seven to eight a.m.: OUR THIRD ANNIVERSARY SHOW!
To Mark year three we scored a big time coup. DIY legend Daniel Johnston joins us and discusses his favorite group of all time, The Beatles. We always said around the Shuffle Function International Headquarters that we'd never do a Beatles show because it is a cliche and too easy, but this show is different. It isn't about The Beatles, but about Daniel's undying love for one of the most influential bands of all time. We feature his thoughts on their craft and songs, and then play his fave Fab hits as well as his covers of their music. This is probably one of my favorite shows that we've ever done, and I think you'll get a kick out of it.

All of this leads up to...
JUNE 2ND, SIX P.M.! OUR FOURTH ANNIVERSARY SHOW!
Four years! If you would have told us after our first show that we'd still be doing what we're doing four years later we would have told you that you, my friend, have incredibly low standards. We've been having such a great time spinning music and hearing from all of you that it is absolutely stunning that the time has flown by so fast. Why it seems like only yesterday that we were marking our first anniversary with An Evening With The Legendary Stardust Cowboy. Our horrible horrible first anniversary...

Yes, horrible. That show was plagued with unspeakable obstacles. A crazy unusable phone interview with The Ledge, technical glitches that boggle the mind, and some of our most painful and stilted scripted banter. PAIN! I'm wincing just thinking of it. While we love The Ledge and the tape recorded interview he mailed us, and all the great music we played, we were never happy with the final show and it has remained sealed in the Shuffle Function archives, never to be heard again. We always thought we could do better, and this time we have.

We have a great interview with The Legendary Stardust Cowboy for you. The man was pretty honest and revealing, and I was thrilled with some of the topics he touched on. He's always a blast and pretty funny, but not always the most revealing guy. This time, he was, and the results are informative and poignant and very very cool.

In addition, loads and loads of his amazing one of a kind music. Tune in, won't you?

SHUFFLE FUNCTION FOUR YEAR ANNIVERSARY
AN EVENING WITH THE LEGENDARY STARDUST COWBOY, TAKE TWO, PART ONE

Please, support all these musicians.

PROGRAM DIRECTORS FOR A DAY, PLEASE NOTE!
Program Directors for a Day are starting June first. Please note the following information if you are one of them, as it is fairly crucial to putting together a great show.

1) CD-Rs do not always work in our CD players! They are very touchy, and if the disc is not burned properly it will not play. Please test any burned CDs in a number of players before you bring them up to the station, or tears may be shed. Also, CD-RWs never ever ever work. Never.

2) NO SWEARS! If your music has profanities, it cannot be played on the radio. This an FCC regulation thing, and we cannot afford to budge on this. Small stations like KMSU cannot afford the steep fines that are thrown around these days, so your help is appreciated. Let's have no profanities or wardrobe malfunctions, please!

3) We only have to pause for news at the bottom of each hour, which is usually around five minutes, and the theme at the top of the hour. Other than that, go nuts! You determine the playlist, we just push buttons and talk too much. I would recommend having a few short songs (under two minutes) to plug in so we can fill the odd moment here and there before the news or themes. It helps make the show flow better.

I think that is it. If there is more we'll post it later, and if you have questions please write to us at shufflefunction@hotmail.com. We're looking forward to whatever you guys have cooked up.

TWO FISTED TALES OF ROLLER DERBY!

If you have missed our gushing as of late about the Minnesota Roller Girls and the resurgence of Roller Derby in Minnesota, well you haven't been listening. Seriously, what is your problem? Go to the back of the line. In any case, you probably need this posting more than anyone.

Oh, I can't stay mad at you.

This Thursday night on Shuffle Function: UNBOUND, we're dedicating the entire show to this amazing colossal sport. Shelley and I went up the week of the Pledge Drive A-GO-GO and interviewed some of the girls and then went to the bout on April 24th. Believe me, it was everything a person would dream it would be and more... TWO TIMES!

Anyway, we put together a sort of radio documentary, recorded linking voice over, all this crap. I am happy with the way it turned out, though we probably come off as Ira Glass' semi-retarded step-niece and nephew. We've never done something like this before, presenting a show in this fashion, so I think it turned out well. Plus the music is sweet.

If you are curious about the Minnesota Roller Girls (and why wouldn't you be?) go to their website and dig on everything they are. They friggin' rule.

MINNESOTA ROLLER GIRLS: TWO FISTED TALES OF ROLLER DERBY
Thursday, May 19th @ six p.m.
Only on 89.7 fm, KMSU

The last bout of the 2004/05 season is Sunday, May 22nd. You really should go. Great time, great music, loads of brawling and action, live music by Faux Jean. All the info is on their site. GO THERE NOW!
