ELVIS HAS LEFT THE BUILDING

As I've explained before, I am late on the scene with my love for all things Elvis Presley. To me he was the bulging , karate kicking buffon from Vegas. Boy oh boy was I wrong. After a visit to Graceland a number of years ago, I saw the light so to speak. At one point on the tour you leave the house and enter the raquetball room, which is now home to just a few of his gold records. I say few, but they are literally wall to wall with gold records (I know they simply ran out of space). It was in this place that I got the shivers. Hearing his Sun releases, finding out how generous he was to not only his family and friends but to complete strangers, well I was really moved. I hate to throw out religious terms, but in this regard they fit the bill. I was born again to the power of Elvis Presley on that day, and I will never go back to those heathen days of ignorance.
This Wednesday, August 16, Shuffle Function will be marking Elvis's death day by celebrating the man and his music. If you have a favorite you'd like us to play, feel free to email us at shufflefunction@hotmail.com . Shyboy Tim and I will be giving out Elvis related gifts every 15 minutes on this day, so have the speed dial ready. The numbers again are 389 - 5678 or 1-800-456-7810.

TCB everybody !!!

SEX AND DRUGS WE GET OUR KICKS, WE'RE THE CLASS OF 86'

This weekend I am attending my 20th high school reunion. If you do the math, that means I graduated from Mankato West in 1986. HEY!!! PUT THOSE YEARBOOK AWAY - although Shyboy Tim graduated a year behind me.
If you are a fan of John Cusack, then you have seen the film Grosse Pointe Blank. If you are not a fan, well I don't know what to say. Watch High Fidelity, or Better Off Dead.... OKAY, this film is all about facing the fears of your reunion with the help of killer music emanating from the town's radio station. Actually there is a lot more going on, but for our purposes we need to focus on the music bit.
This Friday I will be playing the soundtrack to my high school years. I would like to say that my musical tastes were as informed as they are now, but honestly I can't say that. We are all victims of bad music at one point or another, and usually in our young and vulnerable years. Friday will be lots of vinyl, and lots of 80's music, so dress appropriately and drop me a line at the station if you are an 86 graduate of Mankato West - or if you'd like to give me moral support - OR if you have any idea as to what someone should wear to these kind of to-do's??!!
The numbers at the station are (507) 389 - 5678 or 1-800-456-7810. Or drop us an email at shufflefunction@hotmail.com

wish me luck Scarlets!!!

WITH KARATE THEY'LL KICK YOUR ASS... IN NOVEMBER!

A recent issue of Rolling Stone (the Led Zeppelin cover) has a small article about the Tenacious D film, stating that it will be coming out in November! Our holiday plans are suddenly in disarray as we shuffle family commitments to make room for the film of films. ALSO, THE TRAILER IS NOW ONLINE!

In other forthcoming kick ass film news, Aint It Cool News has posted some high res images of teaser posters for the 2007 Rodriguez/Tarantino collaboration GRINDHOUSE. This film will save cinema by destroying it. They are doing their tribute to old 70s sleaze and exploitation films, complete with phony trailers for other films that will run before and between the films. It had originally been announced that each director would be doing an hour long film, but the results have been so amazing that the film will now be a genuine double feature! How a sleazy three plus hour film will be greeted by theater owners is anybody's guess, but I have no doubt that this will succeed both as a tribute to low budget cinema and as entertainment. If anybody can do it right, these two can. As proof, check out how awesome the poster art is. They've got it right down to the heavy creasing in the posters and the Drive-In locations across the top.

SHARK WEEK!

Hey, have you all been watching the Shark Week programming on The Discovery Channel? I think it has been Shark Week! In honor of the most "deep sea predator" of weeks, listener Faith has created some special Shark Week art:

Thanks, Faith!

WHO'S THE WINNER?

It's been almost a week since the anniversary show, where we announced the winner of the Program Director For A Day constest, so no time like the present to post the info on the blog.

THE WINNER IS ANONYMONSTER FROM HENDERSON! We're still waiting for permission to post his entry on here so you can see how extravagant the entry was, as well as a time to schedule the show. His entry was a window pane filled with pop culture images in the glass and a frame with potential band names written all over it. This was accompanied by a book filled with pages of notes, watercolors, sketches, and two CDs of music that would be played on the show.

All the entries were wonderful, and hopefully by now you have all received your thank you packages. If the opportunity arises to do something like this again, we hope you'll all give it another whirl.

Also, thanks to everyone that called up and performed such haunting versions of the morning show theme live on the air. We have your gift bags!

In other give away news, we are giving away stuff every 15 minutes on the August 16th Elvis Death Day tribute show. Stay glued to the radio for all sorts of music from The King, and stay glued to your phone to win!

Thanks for everything!

Shyboy
