Valentine's Day is almost here. Maybe you are a sucker that buys into the whole corporate cash grabbing holiday, or maybe you are sensible. Either way, we want your requests!

Call us during the morning show at 389-5678 or 1-800-456-7810 and give us your V.D. dedications. Dedicate a song to that special someone, or choose something a little more cynical if you are tired of this yearly flowerly farce of a day. If the phone doesn't suit you and you favor the avoidance of one-on-one interaction, you can also e-mail the show at and we'll try and fit your song into the playlist.

Now, for all of you level headed folks that don't wish to follow the Valentine's Day lemmings over the cliff of lameness, here are several Youtube clips for your viewing pleasure.

Have a nice day!

The name Errol Morris might not ring a bell, but I can gaurantee to you that you have seen his work. He is really one of the pioneers of the Documentary Film genre, dating back to 1988's 'The Thin Blue Line'. When I saw it I decided I wanted to make documentaries, and I wasn't alone. It was so distinctive and unlike anything I'd seen before. Simply put, Errol Morris is just a master story teller and listener. Folks have been copying his style of film making ever since. I could go on and on, but his web site says it best, and that is where I am about to send you.

Superbowl time is drawing near, and it got me thinking about commercials. I normally can't stand the things, but recently I have seen a few that catch my attention. Wes Anderson's AT & T commercials for example, or the commercial featuring the Urlacher Bear blowing fire and the man with the awesome voice saying things like "Smack you in the ear hole" and "I'm beggining to rhyme and I like it". But for awhile now, hand down my favorites have been the Miller High Life ads. So like every good computer owner does, I looked them up online. When I discovered that Errol Morris was responsible for them I was both shocked and awed. But yet it makes perfect sense - Errol Morris is awesome and so he would make awesome commercials. For beer. But don't take my word for it, look for yourself.

You can find all of the commercials at Errol Morris's web site: I suggest you watch them all. I will give you a few teasers, in case you don't believe me.

This one is called Golden Goose

This one I would like to dedicate to my Brother-In-Law Pete who can back up anything anytime

This commercial is timely

Laugh out loud funny

And my favorite of the bunch !!!

Do yourself a favor, and check out the complete collection, you won't regret it. And then check out his films, you won't regret that either.

Because I beat Tim to the blog to mention this, it is going to be a bit one sided and heavy on the LOVE side. Oh don't worry about it, I am sure that Shyboy Tim will weigh in with his thoughts on the subject when he gets some free time.

Valentine's Day is about a month away, and we would like to play your Valentines Day dedications on both the Shuffle Function morning show and the 6 pm show. If you do the fuzzy math, that means we will have nearly three hours of on air time to share your deepest and sweetest declarations of love. The field is wide open, the only thing we ask is that you put a little thought into it. A sentence or two (or more if the spirit moves you) declaring your love, along with your song, and we are good to go. If you have a preference as to when we should air it, a.m. or p.m., just let us know.

And yes, we will play your ANTI - Valentine's Day sentiments. But I will leave that for Tim to discuss.

If you need a little inspiration, something to get you in the mood, here is a clip that should do the trick. This is Luther Ingram, from the WattStax, singing "If Loving You Is Wrong, I Don't Want To Be Right".

Now that you are all hot and bothered, email us your Valentine's Day dedications at

If you have brothers and sisters, than you know there are some words or songs that you can sing or speak in public that leaves most folks scratching their heads and confused, but your family will know exactly what it is that you are referring to. Because my sisters and I watched HBO constantly back in it's early days (I think I saw David Bowie's Serious Moonlight tour at least 100 times!!!), I can sing this - "Gonna build a mountain in my living room. Gonna build a mountain, and it's gonna be keen" - and they will join right in. Everyone else in the room just stares.

Closet Cases of The Nerd Kind is where this reference originated. HBO would use it as filler when they had a few random moments between movies or Robin Williams Stand Up Comedy Specials. I absolutely loved this short film, and would often impersonate the "Famous French Scientist" with my friends. I think my love for Closet Cases is an early warning of my nerd and geek like tendencies (that and all the Star Trek fiction I read in junior high). Thanks to You Tube, I have been reunited with this clip. Having not seen it in probably 25 years, I couldn't believe how much of it I remembered!!! It is pretty cheesy I will give you that, but I adored this as a kid, and if you have been looking for it all these years too, well look no further. Here it is, in two parts, Closet Cases Of The Nerd Kind.

Enjoy the flashback- Shelley

Welcome to the first day of Campaign 2008. Be you republican, democrat, independent, or green, this is a much anticipated year. Today my home state, Iowa, has the honor of casting their vote at the Iowa Caucus.

KMSU listening range includes Northern Iowa, and we have heard from many Iowan Shuffle Function listeners over the years, so here is a link to the official Iowa Caucus 2008 web page:

This site will answer a LOT of your questions, but if it doesn't there are a few other places you can turn to. Look in your local newspaper. They will have the locations of your caucus available for you. If that doesn't work for you call your city offices and ask where you need can attend the caucus. If you happen to live in a bigger city, and you are affiliated with a party (i.e. you are a republican, democrat, etc) then you may have a DFL or IR campaign office set up in your town. Stop by there or give them a call - they will definitely help you out. If all else fails, ask your neighbors. Maybe you can carpool?

Allright, I have got to post this and get on with the morning show. Congratulation Iowa listeners for engaging yourselves with our country's future. Now get on the phone and encourage your friends and neighbors to do the same!!!!
