THE SIGNAL IS WEAK, BUT KMSU IS STRONG

Hello Radio Listeners -

We apologize for the weakness of the KMSU signal right now. Gully said that our sewing machine of a transmitter died December 21st, and then our backup transmitter died on Christmas Eve. We are now running on a blender plugged in at the new building housing the new transmitter. Well, maybe it's not a blender, but that would explain all the noise you are hearing on the radio. Experts are working on it and with a little luck the new transmitter might even be up and running!! We ask for your patience - soon all will be well.

This Thursday night at 6 pm we are celebrating the New Year with Judson Fountain's Radio Dramas. The entire hour will be dedicated to a few of our old favorites, and several new ones, as well as our own personnal hommage to Judson's classic "Garbage Can From Thailand". A fun time is guaranteed by all.

And a big heads up to all music geeks - Byron Coley reviewes the 45 record with the Shuffle Function morning show radio theme on it!!! It is short but sweet, and can be found in December's WIRE magazine (of course, it's the one with pasty freakazoid Antony on the cover). A big thank you to Peter Cetera fan club president Dave of Free Form Freakout for the tip!!

REMEMBER A COWBOY THIS CHRISTMAS!

Hi-Dee-Ho, Cats and Kittens! It's Christmas time, and that can mean only one thing (around here): SENDING A CHRISTMAS CARD TO THE LEGENDARY STARDUST COWBOY! Since Day One around here The Ledge has been on the top of our list for seasons's greetings, as well as on the top of our playlists, and that's why we ask that you send him a card wishing him happy holidays!

You know, it gets lonely out in San Jose, where the Ledge calls home. There's no range to roam and no cattle to herd or anything! Plus, he doesn't have any family in the area, either. Imagine how you would feel under those circumstances.

If you would like to send Season's Greetings to The Ledge, you can do so by sending them to this address:

Norman Odam
aka The Legendary Stardust Cowboy
P.O. Box 730742
San Jose, CA 95173

Put stars all over the envelope, too! If you'd like to hear back from him, include a self addressed stamped envelope to make it easier for him. He might not necessarily write back, but in the past he's sent some pretty interesting things out to his pen pals!

We're actively working to raise enough cash to bring The Ledge to Mankato to play a show that will surely become the stuff of legend. We know he's up for it, so the more cards he gets, the more enthusiastic he'll be to play here! Thanks, everybody!

Good Bye Mischke

Picking up the Sunday newspaper and drinking coffee is as good as it gets for me, but today's Star Tribune contained some depressingly bad news. KSTP has fired one of radio's greats - T.D. Mischke. For 8 out of the last 10 years, Mischke has been voted "Best A.M. Radio Show Host" by City Pages, and his firing came only one day after his latest "Best Of" CD release party. If you are unfamiliar with Mischke's genius, follow this link to a great overview in the Atlantic Monthly,
When I complain about the lackluster state of radio in today's world it is because great show hosts like Mischke are few and far between. My Uncle Richard - yes the Uncle who introduced me to Howlin' Wolf and Florence Foster Jenkins - tipped me off to Mischke a number of years ago with his first "Best Of" CD. I was sold on Mischke's genius after hearing the interview he did with an author and expert on the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. Mischke suprised the author by singing all of his questions to the Gordon Lightfoot classic The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald, and it is one of the funniest things I've ever heard. In a world where commercial radio can only talk about "Dancing With The Stars", this kind of original humor will be sorely missed.

UPDATE:  Great.  We get this player for the blog and the site goes down.  Any suggestions for an embedded flash player?  Not some lastfm thing, but something to just put a song that can be clicked to play?
