BAT BOY FOREVER!

Rejoice, true believers! It appears that Google Books has at TON of old Weekly World News issues online for your disbelieving pleasure! If you've never read WWN, then you are in for a treat. They set the bar for years regarding tabloid sensationalism, and to this day I can't say I've seen anybody surpass it. Even if you don't read the issues, just stroll through the gallery of their covers. All masterpieces of absurdity.

This is why the interwebs were invented, people.

ALL HAIL WINTER STORM JULIAN MARSHALL

Take one look out the window and you will see the raw brute force of Winter Storm Julian Marshall. His reign is in effect until 6 a.m. on Saturday morning, and before all is said and done Winter Storm Julian Marshall could be responsible for dropping almost two feet of snow! If you have to travel Shuffle Functioneers, PLEASE be careful.

We have no choice but to bow down before the power of Winter Storm Julian Marshall, and we will have to air some archival footage of Christmas past tomorrow morning. As much as we would love to be live, I just don't think it is going to be possible. From 6 to 7 a.m. we will be airing a show of exquisitely bad Christmas tunes from our Shuffle Function unbound show two years ago. From 7 to 8 a.m. we will reair our first interview with the band Haze that debuts this evening at 6 p.m. Scroll down for more information about tonights show.

Be safe everybody, and Happy Christmas.

My Test Pressing Record Or: How I Learned To Stop Calling Them "Mystery Band" and To Love The Band Haze

We are now just days away from airing part one of our interviews with the band that we have for years been forced to call "The Mystery Band". Maybe forced isn't quite the right word for it, but when I came across this test pressing album almost five years ago there was little to no information on it. The only detail that I had was a hand written date, as you can see below.

There were no song titles, band name, band members, nothing at all. But there was amazing music. Our instant love for the songs we heard fueled the fire to discover who was responsible for this mystery test pressing record. As you know, it took along time to find the answer. But last June on our Shuffle Function anniversary show we discovered the band was called Haze and they were from the Twin Cities. The mystery was solved, but we still wanted more.

It was now our dream to track down the band members, tell them our story, and let them know how much we loved their music. This took a few months, but eventually contact was made and Shyboy Tim and I were able to get the full story of Haze from the band members themselves - and what a story it is! We are very excited to share this with you, our listeners. Many of you have heard our pleas for help over the years, and offered best guesses. The journey ends here.

Tune in this Thursday night at 6 p.m. for part one of our interviews with the band Haze. Part two will air a week later on New Years Eve at 6 p.m. If you want to catch both parts back to back then tune in to Shuffle Function on Friday morning from 6 to 8 a.m. on January 1, 2010.

Another programming note:

Don't cry!

The Shuffle Function morning show will be business as usual and live all week, so tune in for some Christmas tunes and some suprise give aways courtesy of our favorite Mom and Pop Record Shop, Tune Town. If you are heading out of town, don't forget that you can catch us on-line at http://www.kmsu.org/ Just click on the "Listen On-Line" option. And if you have some Christmas requests or shout outs, don't hesitate to email us at shufflefunction@hotmail.com

SEEING IS BELIEVING........... I GUESS

On Friday morning right before the end of the show Tobey Maguire came up in conversation. I don't remember why that was, but I was convinced that he was in the film 'Sin City'. Shyboy Tim begged to differ - he thought it was the guy who played Pretty Boy in 'Fight Club". At that point the whistle blew and we were off to the IMDB races. I was sure that I was right - the picture in my head said that Tobey Maguire played the wierdo in Sin City that Mickey O'Rourke fed to a dog. I remember it because I don't really care for anything he's done, but I thought his creepy acting was spot on.

On Monday morning's show I wrote the following on the bottom of our log notes: "Why should I listen to you (Shyboy Tim), you're always right". The name of my biography! It was Elijiah "The Hobbit" Wood who played Kevin in "Sin City', not Tobey "Spider" Maguire. Ughhh!

In fact I just came across the following quote from Maguire on the New York Magazine web site from this week:

"I've been mistaken for so many different actors, it's just wild. I've gotten Jake Gyllenhaal a few times like, 'Loved you in Brokeback Mountain.' I've had that. I can't remember all of them, but Wes Bentley, tons of times, and Elijah Wood. When people ask me for my autograph and say, 'Oh, you were so great in such and such,' which I wasn't in, then I usually just sign the other actor's name and say, 'Thank you very much.'"

So I was wrong. If I'd have been right Shyboy Tim would have had to say that "Snow is his BFF". That might have been even more painfull to witness than my comedy of errors, so maybe it is for the best.

And Now For Something Completely Different................
I stumbled across this guy looking for Halloween related items on my blog a day posts in October. I have been waiting for Christmas to post these, and well here we go folks. Eilert Pilarm will always have a soft spot in my heart for his "Felling The Elvis" way, but this fella "E" is an up and comer!

Here he is singing Silver Bells:

and here is the classic Blue Christmas:

and here is "E" with a duet partner struggling with the difficult and wordy lyrics of Jingle Bells:

have a great weekend folks,

Shelley

Alternate Holiday Suggestions

I'm not good at keeping secrets that I am very excited about sharing with people (just ask Shyboy Tim). But we can finally share this secret with you - we plan to end the year on Shuffle Function (Unbound) with a BANG! Long time Shuffle Function listeners know all about the "Mystery Album", but if this is news to you skip on over to these past blog entries - it's okay, we will wait for you:

We actually solved the mystery on the night we aired the entire "Mystery Album" for our nine year anniversary this past June, www.shufflefunction.blogspot.com/2009/07/case-closed.html
We had the band name - Haze, and after I found a bootleg copy of the album at Cheapos, we had the names of the band members as well. At that point all we hoped to accomplish was finding the band members and telling them our story and letting Haze know how much we loved their album. That finally happened in September!!!

We have been in touch with all but one member of Haze, and we have been recording our interviews - and WHAT A STORY THEY HAVE. This isn't a simple "We had a band, put out a record, and broke up story". As Shyboy Tim said this morning, it is a story with alot of twists and turns, heartaches and highlights. I can't wait for you to hear it!!
We plan on sharing the story of HAZE, as well as their music with all of you on our last two shows of the year for Shuffle Function (Unbound). Part One will air on Thursday night at 6 p.m. on December 24th (Christmas Eve) and Part Two will air Thursday night at 6 p.m. on December 31st (New Years Eve). These two shows have been about five years in the making, and Shuffle Function listeners have been a part of this mystery since it began, and you will be with us as it ends.

Mark your calendars, and tell your friends. Shyboy Tim and I will remind you too on the air.

Archival Shuffle Function Footage for Turkey Day

This Thursday and Friday morning Shyboy Tim and I will be sleeping in and eating too much with our families, so we have some special programming lined up for you from 6 to 8 a.m., and don't forget that Thursday night at 6 p.m. we have a special announcement for everyone concerning our last two shows of the year on Shuffle Function Unbound.

Here is how the morning shows will shake out:

Thursday from 6 to 7 a.m. we will air this years Halloween edition of Shuffle Function radio Roulette.
Thursday from 7 to 8 a.m. we will air this years 9th Anniversary for the night time show featuring the "Mystery Record" played in it's entirety (of course we now know that it is the band Haze).

Friday from 6 to 8 a.m. we will air two of our past "Wishlist" shows featuring music and stories from our extended Shuffle Function family concerning musicians and concerts they have experienced. These "Wishlist" shows are some of the best radio Shyboy Tim and I ever produced, and for three years it is how we celebrated the Holidays on Shuffle Function.

Have a safe and relaxing holiday, and to get you in the mood, here is Bob:

and this has nothing what so ever to do with the holidays, but is pretty darn cool:

We will be back live on Monday,

HAVE NO FEAR - YOUR ZOMBIE SURVIVAL KITS ARE NEAR

On Friday we mailed out all of the Shuffle Function Zombie Survival Kits to the good people who pledged for one during the Fall KMSU Pledge Drive. Shuffle Function Artisans spent a lot of time on this one - because lives will be depending upon it. I took some pictures while they were being constructed that I wanted to share with all of the Shuffle Functioneers.

Here are a few of the non-lethal components found in each Zombie Survival Kit:

Back Up Fire Starters (aka magnifying glasses)

Potted Meat Product

Germ Killer

Duct Tape for Repairs and Medicinal Concerns

Fire Starter Kit

Zombie Odor Neutralizers

Map Of Iowa (for when the sh*t hits the fan, it's Iowa!)

And finally some finished products ready for shipping.

I suggest that this week

you don't just casually stroll to your mailboxes.

YOU RUN !!!!

Thanks to everyone who pledged. Mr.Specific has also mailed out all of his Finders Keepers CDs, so look for those as well. Don't forget Zombie fan(atics), Left For Dead 2 is just a wakeup away.

THE FINAL GRIND-FU OF 2009 IS OVAH!

Thanks to all that came to the final Grind-Fu of the year. It was a blast, and once again you all rose to the occasion and made it completely memorable. In many ways it was a celebration of everything we've ever wanted to do with this film series. Here are some highlight photos:

At the first Grind-Fu of the season we gave out punchcards, and anybody that survived every Grind-Fu screening would receive a big thank-you gift. Three people made it.

The movies were great, but the real star was the zombie cake that Amber @ the Hilltop HyVee bakery made. She's a horror cake visionary.

Thanks again to everybody that made the 2009 Grind-Fu Cinema season so memorable. In a way this marks the end of an era and the dawning of a new one for Grind-Fu Cinema... BUT I CAN SAY NO MORE! Stay tuned to this blog and 89.7 fm for more information on the 2010 season of Grind-Fu Cinema!
