I just posted last weeks playlist, and I don't want the address of The Legendary Stardust Cowboy to get lost in the mix. It is his birthday this Saturday, and we would love it if you could drop a card, letter or postcard in the mail for him. The Ledge would love it too!! In fact if you send along a self adressed stamped envelope, you might get an interesting reply from The Ledge himself.

Here is his mailing address:

Thanks everybody!! You are all Radio Heroes!!

I am trying to figure out my fantasy football team this weekend because I have my draft coming up on Thursday and this is my only opportunity to snoop around the NFL for players. I am enjoying it, but I find my mind wanders while I am on the on-lines. Here are some clips of interest I think you may enjoy:

I saw a link to this trailer somewhere and that's all it took - I was hooked!! I have watched the first season and it is amazing. UFO is the brain child of Gerry Anderson, perhaps best known for his THUNDERBIRDS series. I highly reccomend you check it out for yourself: it's a wonderfull combination of mod, camp, Sci-Fi, and cheese.

This next clip is by no means an advertisement for the game. I am merely pointing out some more super cool exposure time for our favorite DIY musician Daniel Johnston. Kudos to whomever designed the game, because they stuck a "Hi. How Are You?" Daniel Johnston t-shirt on Curt Cobain.

Since joining the 21st Century, I have been loving my iTouch. I had a million reasons (excuses) for not buying it, but over the past month I have found one reason and one reason alone to justify shilling out some hard earned cash for such a high tech toy - I can listen to Mischke's daily podcast. I have mentioned this cat on the blog before. He is a talk radio host formerly on KSTP till they gave him the boot. He is now working for City Pages and does a two hour show Monday thru Friday on the world wide web called In The Stream. It is radio at it's best, and I have not missed a show since getting my iTouch. You can download the show for free on iTunes, or if you prefer a link, follow this:

And for a finale. I haven't had television for about 4 months, but with football season coming on fast I have been considering the merits of TV. This recent news has now made that choice a no brainer. let's just hope this is for real!!

Well that's it for me - time to get back to fantasy football draft cheat sheets. At least I have a name for my team now. What do you think of this? SEVERAL BOYS AND HIS ROBOT.

The Ledge, Pop Music Pajama Party Redos, Grind-Fu and YOU

Let's get this out of the way lickity-split. Last night the wrong Pop Music Pajama Party show was aired. These things happen, and it is always beyond our control. We plan on righting that wrong by playing the CORRECT Pop Music Pajama Party for you next Thursday night at 6 p.m., featuring the music of The Kinks.

Now onto more legendary things.......................

September 5th is the Legendary Stardust Cowboy's 62nd birthday. Yes it is right around the corner, but it is not too late to drop your birthday greetings in the mailbox. The Ledge has admitted in several interviews that his favorite thing in the whole wide world is fan mail. Going to his mail box and discovering letters from music lovers across the world really "floats his boat", and the letters he has received from Minnesota are amongst his favorites.

Buy a card, make a card, send a letter or a postcard - it doesn't matter which. What matters is that you let The Legendary Stardust Cowboy know that KMSU listeners love him. Shyboy Tim and I have one goal that we set for ourselves - to somehow get The Ledge to Mankato to perform. When that happens, I guarantee that he is going to remember all the cards and well wishes he has received from the folks in Minnesota!!

Here is his mailing address, and tell him that Shuffle Function sent you:

If you plan on attending the Grind-Fu Cinema event Saturday night, we will have a card there for you to sign for The Legendary Stardust Cowboy. Don't forget everyone - two silent movie blockbusters are in store for you over at the Wiecking 220 Auditorium on Campus. Bring your own sodas, snack foods, friends, dress in layers and we will see you at 7 p.m.

Now nobody likes to hear an "I told you so", but I can't help myself Shuffle Functioneers. On Friday the following news story broke across the internet. Yes it is a Fox News clip, but don't let this dissuade you. CNN sells t-shirts of their headlines news for goodness sakes!!!

Canadian Scientists took it upon themselves to watch a bunch of horror movies, play a number of video games, and then break out their big brains and calculators to do the math. Their scientific conclusion: a zombie apocolypse would essentially wipe out society as we know it.

Why should we believe these Canadian yahoos? They start off with a bang by concluding that the zombies we would be dealing with would indeed be the slow moving zombies. I have made this argument from the get go, simply because there is no way in hell that I could run more than 50 yards to get away from a fast moving 28 Days Later zombie. That should be reason enough right? You aren't buying it? You still think this is a joke. Well then let me drop some science on you:

How do you like those zombie apples, huh? That is just the basic principle too - it just gets more and more convoluted. I don't want to blow your mind with science so I won't include any more formulas, but you can read them here for yourself:

These guys get an A for effort and an A+ for scaring the crap out of me. They do offer a glimmer of hope however - if we act incredibly fast to destroy the zombie population we may have a fighting chance. Otherwise, a city with a population of over 500,000 should expect to be over run by zombies within three days.

Don't forget to scroll down the blog for information on this Saturday's Grind-Fu Cinema. The posters are up and around town, and we are hoping for a big crowd for Nosferatu and Phantom Of The Opera.

In my opinion John and Tim are twins, AND THEY NEVER TOLD US !!!

Here is a picture of John Krasinski sporting a beard for the role he played in the best movie I've seen this summer, "Away We Go".

For a number of years now, except for a brief period a few years ago after the Shuffle Function 24 Hour Pledge Drive A-G0-GO when he HAD to shave off his beard, Shyboy Tim has been rockin' the Grizzly Adams Look. OKay, to be fair, it is not as big a beard as Grizzly Adams, or even a Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, but it is pretty fuzzy. I only want to clarify a timeline here because I think that Sam Mendes clearly was using Shyboy Tim's look when he asked John Krasinski to prepare for his role in "Away We Go".

Don't believe me, here's the proof Yo!

Do you see what I mean?! Do you need a side by side comparison? Or as close as Blogspot will let me get to a side by side comparison?

Crazy, huh? I couldn't get Shyboy Tim to smile, but in retrospect that was probably a good thing - the similarities of the two pictures would have surely BLOWN YOUR MIND!!

This Thursday night Shyboy Tim and I kick off another Pop Music Pajama Party season. This tradition goes back to almost our radio infancy, for we started doing it every August after having been on the air for only a few months. What began small has now become an epic undertaking on our part - what with the writing of the radio dramas, finding and recording the Shuffle Function Wrecking Crew, and then hours and hours of editing. We normally begin working on them months in advance of August, but this year things are a little different. Due to life's tendency to sometimes jump up and kick you in the keister, Tim and I didn't have the necessary free time to dedicate to the work detailed above for the radio drama portion of the Pop Music Pajama Parties. We are sorry it things turned out this way, but life really gave us no alternative. We did not want to totally throw the PMPJ tradition out the window though, we will still be dedicating every Thursday night this month to the music of a few of our favorite artists. Next year, knock on wood, things will be different and we will return to our regularly scheduled programming.

What do we have in store for you this year? Tune in every Thursday Night at 6 p.m. for the following shows:

Other people playing other people's music. This year has seen teh release ofseveral amazing covers compilations, so we will be borrowing heavily from them as well as playing some personal faves.

AUGUST 13, 2009 - The music of FRANCOISE HARDY.
Not only should you try to catch this show to hear me butcher the language of the French, but honestly she is an important singer who probably gets little to no air time. Check out the following clip, and fall in love with everything French!!

SHYBOY ADDS: Here's another clip of Francoise looking impossibly gorgeous and unattainable. I'm just saying.

AUGUST 20, 2009 - The music of SONIC YOUTH.
My guess is that these guys need no introduction, but just in case you have been in a cave for the last 30 years I have a video that will help clear things up for you. This was difficult to track down, and perhaps a bit gory, but it was one of the coolest videos I ever saw MTV play back when they did play music videos. This is Sonic Youth with Lydia Lunch recreating a certain family named Manson for their song "Death Valley '69".

Death Valley 69

AUGUST 27, 2009 - The music of THE KINKS.
You know the Kinks, even if you think you don't. If you hae ever seen a Wes Anderson film, then you have heard The Kinks. If you have ever sang the words "La La La La Lola", then you know The Kinks. Their discography is vast, and to be fair we should have dedicated the entire Pop Music Pajama Party season to them alone, but we will do our best with the hour we have.

So there you have it ladies and gentleman, the official lineup for the 2009 Season of Pop Music Pajama Parties.
