Future Highlights of the upcoming Shuffle Function 24 Hour Pledge Drive A-Go-Go

We are now less than three weeks away from the Shuffle Function 24 Hour Pledge Drive A-Go-Go, which starts on April 1st at 6 p.m. On last night's Shuffle Function show we broke it all down for you. Believe me, we know that staying awake for 24 hours straight is a lot to ask. So if you need to get your beauty sleep but don't want to miss out on the sweet sweet sounds of Jandek, here is a loose itenarary for you to memorize and pass along to your friends.

6 p.m. Thursday April 1st THE CLARION CALL OF THE MARATHON START. Yep, I know that makes no sense right now, but trust me it it will on April 1st. Shyboy Tim and I begin the festivities with ONE OF TWO BIG BIG INCREDIBLY EXCITING LIFE CHANGING announcements, as well as the shameless begging for your financial support for KMSU.

9 p.m. Thursday April 1st SHUFFLE FUNCTION RADIO ROULETTE. We dive head first in to our massive K-Tel record collection, and don't come up for air until 10 p.m. The playlist is completely out of our control! We draw a number out of a magic hat to determine which K-Tel record to play. We then flip a coin to determine side A or side B of that record. Shyboy Tim then rolls a ten sided die (yes, from D + D) to pick the track that gets aired. Shuffle Function radio Roulette is frightening for two reasons. One, it is competely random, and for control freaks that is a tough pill to swallow, and two, HAVE YOU SEEN THE KIND OF MUSIC THAT IS ON A K-Tel RECORD??!! It is not implausible to play an entire hour of Air Supply, spiced up with the Laverne and Shirley Theme. Tune in to find out.

2 a.m. Friday April 2nd JANDEK: SOUNDS OF INSOMNIA. Honestly there is no better soundtrack for the middle of the night than Jandek. Our favorite mystery man turned rabid performer is guaranteed to give you the chills. Turn the lights off, light a few candles, and turn your radio up. That's what we do.

6 to 9 a.m. Friday April 2nd VINYL MORNING SHOW. I love this part of the 24 hour marathon, because vinyl is where it all began for Shyboy Tim and I. We take turns pulling some of our favorites out of the vinyl vaults and tossing em' on the turntables to spin. It gets our blood pumping and kickstarts the rest of our day. We will also be making the SECOND OF TWO BIG BIG INCREDIBLY EXCITING LIFE CHANGING announcements during this time. Seriously folks, I can't wait to tell you!! These announcements are so big that we are required by law to space them twelve hours apart - FOR YOUR HEALTH.

9 a.m. Friday April 2nd Beatles Mono Hour. This is pretty self explanatory, folks. Any radio station could sit back, relax, and play an hours worth of Beatles music - but KMSU is not just any radio station. We are only playing Mono versions of The Beatles tunes during this hour. If you sneak a peek at our playlists for the show, we have always differentiated the difference between STEREO and MONO Beatles, and there is a differnce. The two are as different as hot and cold, the original 1974 release of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre and the crappy 2003 remake of Chainsaw, or running zombies and rigor mortis zombies. Tune in for an education, people!

(CO-HOST NOTE: We are not saying that either the mono or stereo versions of Beatles songs are as insufferable as the 2003 remake of Chainsaw. The comparison merely illustrates how very different the mono and stereo versions are. The 2003 version of Chainsaw sucks. Shyboy out.)

NOON Friday April 2nd SHUFFLE FUNCTION RADIO ROULETTE. Round #2. See the picture above? I have that album - in fact I have the French and American version of that album. This could very easily be chosen to play in this hour, and there is nothing we can do about it. The Radio Gods are in charge of the playlist, and K-Tel records are their canvas people. It can be frightening, it can be so- so, or it can be electrifying!

After this point it is every DJ for themselves. Shyboy Tim and I are on the home stretch. 24 hours is a really long time to stay awake, let alone do a radio show that requires us to string along more than two sentences in an entertaining way. This is the time of the marathon where such catch phrases like "better than mustard on a ketchup cake". The Shuffle Function 24 Hour Pledge Drive A-Go-Go comes to and end at 6 p.m. Friday April 2nd, when we literally say goodnight and crash.

We will be reminding you of all of this - but please be sure to pass the info along to your family and friends. Pledge Drives around KMSU are always pretty important, and this Spring Pledge Drive is no exception. We have some wonderfull premiums available as well as a "thank you" gift for your pledges, so check in on the blog closer to April 1st for more info.

All right - stay tuned for a special Grind-Fu Cinema post, too!!

Shelley
