This is just a reminder that on Wednesday, December 8th Shuffle Function is going to be on the air ALL DAY LONG as we pay tribute to John Lennon on the 30th anniversary of his death. We'll have loads of Beatles (mono and stereo) and solo Lennon on hand to fill requests, and Shelley is putting together an elaborate Human Resources manual with all the rules and regulations that such an undertaking requires.
It's going to be a day to remember John and his musical legacy, so please try and request songs that he did. What we mean is that they should be songs that he sang in The Beatles. Does that mean we won't play Let It Be or Yesterday? Not necessarily. Actually, most likely we won't. We'll write them down in a big list of songs to play if we run out of Lennon material, though we have nine hours of just Beatles stuff alone, so... I'm just sayin'.
Also, it's not a day for playing covers of Lennon stuff. No crappy Green Day cover of Working Class Hero (though we couldn't play that anyway due to F-bombs) or anything from that craptastic Across The Universe movie. Look, we'll have the real deal up there to play. There's no need to resort of cover versions.
To step back a bit... Working Class Hero. You guys, we love the song as much as you do, but it has a big ol' swear in it, and the radio cops don't approve. Could we bleep it? Sure, but it'd be wrong. That f-bomb is key to that track.
What will we play? Loads of music that changed people's lives. Why? Because John Lennon is pretty awesome, and even after 30 years people still mourn him. Wednesday is gonna be a day of celebration, so we hope you'll stay tuned all day.
