New Location for Tune Town

This morning Carl opened the door of his new Tune Town, located at 630 N. Riverfront Drive. If you are like me and prefer landmarks for directions, Tune Town is in the old Denco Light shop kitty corner from the Ole'. A store like Tune Town is a must for me - I can't even begin to imagine what life would be like in Mankato without a Mom and Pop record shop. Simply put, it would suck. Music Geeks!!! Be sure and to do your part to support Carl in his first week of business in the new digs.

This is what the store looks like from the front of the shop - vinyl is along the left hand wall, and CDs take up the rest of the floor space. Note the amazing Superman Blue of the walls. I know they will be covered in posters and merchandise soon, so enjoy the vast blue while you can.

Shyboy Tim is the first customer in the new digs.

The first twenty people in the door also got a new Tune Town logo shirt designed by The Dirty Bird herself, Nora Myers.

Last but not least, here is the Mom and Pop behind Tune Town, Carl and Karen with their kids Avery and Henry.

Today I picked up the Beatles Anthology DVD Boxset. Once I get an opportunity to wade through it all, I should be able to hold my own with the pros (i.e. Shyboy Tim). Congratulations to Carl and Karen and all the folks at Tune Town.

When wishes don't come true...............

Since the odds of an Arrested Development reunion/film are plummeting, this may be the next best thing. Here you can see my favorite "Cutie Patootie" (how do you spell that anyway?) and my favorite illusionist at work! An extra added bonus (boy that is a redundant statement) - the gal who plays April in Parks and Recs! WHY OH WHY DID THEY HAVE TO CANCEL ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT??!!

And while I am posting clip links - have you checked out Dr. Brule yet?

I'm going to do my best to see a ton of films today, including "Jaws" at the Trylon. I'll fill you in on the popcorn status tomorrow. While looking at the film times on-line this morning, and drinking up a ton of coffee, I came across this sad bit of news about the status of the Oak Street Cinema. I guess Crispin Glover's movie "What Is It" will be my last at that great theater.

Allright, before I head out I also found this article that lists all of the artists found on the stars outside of First Ave. Usually I am in such a rush to get in the door that I don't always stop to ponder all the names, so this list really helps.

First on my list - the A-Team. Cross your fingers for me!!

WHATEVER YOU DO - DON't TURN OFF THE LIGHTS WHILE YOU WATCH THIS

In fact, this should only be watched in broad daylight, preferably in a crowded place with your back to the wall. If you don't believe me, then proceed at your own peril. I just thank the video gods that this is a little fuzzy and filmed from a distance. Honestly this might be the scariest thing I have seen in a film clip since watching "Suspiria", or the first ten minutes of "28 Weeks Later".

Alright. I warned you. Consider yourselves warned - seriously.

I don't understand this, and it frightens me to no end to think this was performed in front of a bunch of kids!! If anyone has any more info on this PLEASE PASS IT ALONG!!

SEE YA LATER, LEDGE!

The last photo at the airport, before we said goodbye to The Ledge and the Altamont Boys. The reception that KMSU listeners gave them was fantastic, and we're still hearing from them two weeks on about how much it meant to them, and what a great time The Legendary Stardust Cowboy had in town. From the autographs, to the Mayor declaring it Legendary Stardust Cowboy day, to the response at the show, they were all impressed. THANK YOU, RADIO HEROES!

FLESHTONES SCHOOL MANKATO ON HOW TO ROCK A TOWN!

Simply put, The Fleshtones have ruined live music in Mankato, because at this point NO BAND CAN TOP THE SHOW THEY PUT ON. Oh, there will still be live music... bands will still come and go... but every live show from here on out lives under the mighty shadow of The Fleshtones, who blasted through town on May 21st, 2010, leaving a trail of dazed and amazed in their wake.

PHOTOGRAPHIC EVIDENCE!

The Legendary Stardust Cowboy had just finished playing, and we weren't sure when The Fleshtones would hit. Suddenly there was a drum beat from the back of the room, and there were the guys, singing Hexbreaker and parting the crowd as they made their way towards the stage.

First song: SPEEDY GONZALES!

FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER ON STAGE: THE FLESHTONES AND KLAUS FLOURIDE!

I forget the name of the blonde woman, but she was super nice and gave me and Shelley ice cream before the show.

Keith and Ken did this crazy thing where Ken played Keith's guitar, and Keith played Ken's bass. Then they marched in circles. Crazy awesome showmanship.

Keith 1, Table 0

At one point Ken and Keith left the stage for a push-up contest. The previously mentioned blonde woman took over the bass, and Chuck took over on guitar. If you are familiar with live shows in Mankato, then you know that it aint a live show until Chuck jumps on stage.

PUSH-UPS!

Keith was done with the contest, and had to make Chuck surrender the guitar. Chuck, having had a taste of Fleshtones madness, seems reluctant to do give it back.

Miriam admires Keith's fretwork.

Here's Chuck again, with Ken.

The finale.

Shelley and Peter roll around in the beer and Blue Whales.
So yeah... The Fleshtones have set an impossible bar for live music in Mankato. Good luck, rest of the bands in the world! You have your work cut out for you!

FINALLY, SOMEONE LISTENED TO ME

I am not exactly sure why it has taken so long for BP to throw their hands up in the air and ask for help, but they are now doing just that.

I came across this post on Boing Boing this afternoon.

Think you may have an idea about solving the oil spill at Deepwater Horizon? Give it a shot. The last time I watched so much live feed of an event was when Lily the Bear had her cub while hibernating away in her den last fall. Watch the oil spill away here.

By the way, Lily was reunited with her cub Hope the end of May. Hope was feared dead, but with the help of some scientists there was a happy reunion!
