GRIND-FU CINEMA FOR FREE PRESS READERS!

HEY! If you are visiting this blog because of the Free Press article, here's something awesome for you to read:

WE'RE SHOWING WILLY WONKA and PEE WEE AT 2 O'CLOCK & AGAIN AT 7! That's right! If you show up at two you can see Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory, and immediately after that we're showing Pee Wee's Big Adventure! BETTER YET, we're doing the same thing at seven that night! DOUBLE THE DOUBLE FEATURES!

The Free Press article said that we'd show Wonka @ 2, and then Pee Wee @ 7, but it's actually much cooler than that. So if you show up at seven expecting to see Pee Wee, you're gonna have to sit through Willy Wonka first. There are worse fates.

ALSO, IT IS COMPLETELY FREE!

TV is Glorious! Need Proof?

As I said on the air this morning, it is a glorious time to be a TV watcher (if you have a quirky, dark sense of humor). I have a number of shows that I have made a point of not missing:30 Rock, Community, Parks and Rec, and Modern Family. But there are some new ones lurking in the near furture or happening right now! I will name a few for you -

Missing a bit of Arrested Development in your life? Or Mr. Show? This might do the trick, courtesy of David Cross, The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret.

I just found this possible trashy gem too, granted I have only the trailer to go by, but if John Waters has agreed to be the spokesperson, it can't be all bad! It is called Who The (Bleep) Did I Marry?

This next show starts tonight people, and has a limited run, so be sure to act fast campers!
The Kids In The Hall are back for a limited engagement in a show called Death Comes To Town. It begins at 9 p.m. tonight on IFC (followed by Freaks and Geeks at 10 p.m.!), and I for one will be glued to my TV. My hopes are high for this series, and based on this one picture alone I think all will be well.

IFC also is showing the new season of IT CROWD!!!!!! Which has made it the bestest station ever!!!!!!!! You have missed two shows, but it is not too late to get in on the fun!! Tuesday nights at 9 p.m. you can catch Moss and Roy working their geeked out magic!!!!!!!

PEE WEE'S BIG ADVENTURE

Saturday, August 28th
Double Features @ 2 and 7 pm!

Wiecking 220 Auditorium

After the debacle of last month's Grind-Fu, we just couldn't let Wonka get away. That's why we're calling a do-over. We've cancelled the original double bill, and this August Grind-Fu Cinema is presenting Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory, PLUS Pee Wee's Big Adventure! As usual, the whole thing is FREE!

That's right! Free family friendly films! We've had lots of people over the past couple years ask if we could show something they could bring the kids to, and here's the chance. Both films are classics, hilarious, and a great way to pass an afternoon (or evening) in air conditioned comfort. Bring the whole family, as well as any snacks and sodas you need, and settle in for a great day of movies.

There's also two opportunities to catch the double feature: At two p.m., and then again at seven. 'Nuff said.

Is Elvis Alive?

Today is Elvis's death day, and we are spinning Elvis all morning long on the show. Right off the bat we got caught up in Elvis conspiracy theories - here are a few snippets I came across after a quick on-line search or two. It ends with Bill Bixby's tv special, "Is Elvis Alive" in five parts.

and the grandaddy of them all - The Elvis Files with Bill Bixby!

Enjoy! Shelley

OH - if you want to have Elvis sightings all day long, check out the live camera feed from the gates of Graceland. I have seen Elvis 10 times already today!!

YOUR CHANCE TO ASK THE ZOMBIE MASTER

Just came across this link on Boing Boing for your chance to ask Max Brooks questions about his books. This is a great learning opportunity, future zombie Apocalypse survivors, so don't miss out on it. He will be answering the ten best questions this Tuesday so you have the weekend to come up with the goods. If the name Max Brooks doesn't ring a bell, then you have probably never read his book World War Z. I recommend that you do - it will scare you silly and may save your life!

LET'S MAKE A DEAL ZOMBIE GUYS AND GALS

We had a great tip from a listener this morning about about a Zombie Pub Crawl taking place this Saturday in Owatonna. If you'd like to attend the gory festivities (and who wouldn't!) follow this link to the newspaper story. It will give you all the wheres and whens that you will need to get your zombie on.

Shyboy Tim and I have a little bartering in mind for those of you out there in Shuffle Function land that might head over to Owatonna for the Zombie Crawl. We have always loved receiving photos of our listeners in interesting locales sporting their Shuffle Function t-shirts. So here is the deal:

1) Dress up like a zombie and gore up your Shuffle Function t-shirt accordingly.

2) Take a picture of yourself in your zombie glory.

3) Send us that picture, and your gooey zombified Shuffle Function t-shirt, and we will swap out a brand new t-shirt for you!

It is pretty simple really. A t-shirt for a t-shirt. You can mail them to us at the station, or deliver them in person. Our mailing address is:

IT IS OFFICIAL - WE HAVE OUR NEW DOUBLE BILL FOR THIS MONTH'S GRIND-FU CINEMA

As promised we are ready to announce the new and improved August Grind-Fu Cinema lineup.

On Saturday August 28th we will be showing the double bill of :

WILLY WONKA AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY

and

PEE WEE'S BIG ADVENTURE.

We plan on doing a double matinee as well, so you can catch both flicks at the 2 o'clock spot and 7 o'clock spot on the last Saturday of August.

Here is a few trailers to wet your whistle!

and tell em' Large Marge sent ya'!!

We will be geeking out to no end about this on the air - but just to let you know we have tossed out the old line-up of Revenge Of The Nerds and Real Genius to allow us to actually see Willy Wonka.

I can't wait to see Pee Wee and Oompah Loompahs on the big screen, and after last Saturday's fiasco, I REALLY can't wait.

talk to you soon -

WHY I AM A LUDDITE.

Saturday really sucked you guys. See the picture above - that is a picture Tim took of me after we cancelled the matinee for Willy Wonka (that's me on the right). We were so excited for this particular Grind-Fu Cinema, and to have it derailed by a faulty volume control broke our Willy Wonka loving hearts. We cannot apologize enough to everyone that was planning on attending or did show up for the screenings. Sorry just doesn't cut it, I know.

I have two things I want you to know.

Number one - tune in to tomorrow's Shuffle Function morning show for details on what we are thinking of doing with the Grind-Fu Cinema line-up. We are still discussing it, but will have things hammered out by tomorrow morning. Of course we will post some info here on the blog after we have made the final decision.

Number two - I have the IT department on it. I called them first thing this morning and met them at the auditorium. Somewhat to my relief I was told that nothing like the problem we encountered has ever happened before. Tim and I pressed so many buttons and tried out so many different options Saturday afternoon in an attempt at getting the audio to work. We did this for hours!! My relief stems from not watching some tech guy come in, press one button, and resolve the issue. When I left the Weicking Auditorium this morning they were still up in the air about what was wrong but they assured me it would be fixed for the next Grind-Fu Cinema.

Again I want to apologize to you all for any inconvenience the cancellation may have caused. We hope to make it up to you.

Shelley
