Tonight on Shuffle Function - the entire BEACH BOYS SMILE

Years past we have reserved the last show of the year for something a little bit on the goofy side, but not tonight. We are playing what was considered for 45 years to be a lost masterpiece, the entire Smile record by The Beach Boys. Tim and I both bought the box set and we are giving the vinyl a spin for tonight's Shuffle Function show. Tune in at 6 p.m. to hear perfection, harmonies for days, and jaw dropping sounds. This is Brian Wilson's love letter to America, and it was well worth the wait! Happy New Year Radio Heroes!

KIM JONG IL'S CRAZY MONSTER MOVIE!

Sure, we all know Kim Jong Il's reputation for running a starving isolationist country, as well as his penchant for escalating border tensions and nuclear posturing, but did you also know that he was a movie geek? He was such a geek, in fact, that he abducted a well known South Korean director and forced him to make movies for his regime! Aint that a lot of love?

In 1978 North Korean intelligence officers kidnapped South Korean film director Shin Sang-ok, on orders from Kim Jong Il. It was Kim Jong Il's dream to start a film studio to produce propaganda films that would impress the world. Shin directed seven films during his time in North Korea, the best know being Pulgasari. Shin eventually escaped in 1986. He then went to the U.S. and directed a few Three Ninjas movies. Anyway...

Pulgasari is giant monster film similar to Godzilla. The staff of Toho said in 1998 that they preferred Pulgasari to the recent U.S. remake of Godzilla, but that either means Pulgasari was great or slightly less crappy than the U.S. Godzilla. We'll leave that up to you. Here's the entire Pulgasari, presented in nine gloriously lo-fi parts via the youtubes. ENJOY!

MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM THE LEDGE!

Twas The Night Before Christmas
as told by Norman Carl Odam

nightbeforexmas mixdown by Shyboy

And don't forget to send The Ledge your Season's Greetings!  He's received lots of cards so far, and it's really making him happy!  THE ADDRESS!

You have heard us mention it on the air for almost a month now, but we know how busy things can get this time of year. If you have already sent your Seasons Greetings to The Legendary Stardust Cowboy, thank you. But of you haven't had time to do so yet his address is on the paper plate below.

I FOUND BOB

Here is the original version with David Bowie and Bing Crosby in 1977:

Here is the version I have been looking for forever, with Bob Mould and Craig Kilborn in 1996. SERIOUSLY I have looked forever and a day for this fleeting memory of Bob Mould that I had. It was so fleeting that all I could say for certain was that Bob Mould sang Little Drummer Boy/Peace On Earth. And now Shyboy Tim spends 20 seconds on the You Tubes and finds it!

This is the version that came out last year with John C. Reilly and Will Ferrell:

CALLING ALL RADIO HEROES

OPERATION COWBOY IS IN FULL EFFECT
You have heard us mention it on the air for almost a month now, but we know how busy things can get this time of year. If you have already sent your Seasons Greetings to The Legendary Stardust Cowboy, thank you. But of you haven't had time to do so yet his address is on the paper plate below.

This plate is from the Legendary Stardust Cowboy's amazing Mankato show several years back. The morning before the show The Ledge asked Tim and I to get him several hundred paper plates, and he then proceeded to write out his mailing address on each of them. Later that night during his set the audience was then showered with paper plates flying through the air - both inside and outside the club. The Ledge loves to hear from you, so while you have your friends and family around you this Holiday weekend, grab a card and have everyone sign it. We thank you - and the Legendary Stardust Cowboy loves it!

Last but not least - tonight we will be playing brand new material from The Legendary Stardust Cowboy on Shuffle Function. KMSU is the only place you will hear it - so be sure to tune into 89.7 fm at 6 p.m. for an hour of music from The Legendary Stardust Cowboy. You can also listen on-line at www.kmsu.org just click on the Listen On-line option. We can't wait for you to hear this Shuffle Functioneers!!

I HEART CHARLES GRODIN

I know that he has become, in Shyboy Tim's words, a "NUT JOB" but I love Charles Grodin. His performance in Ishtar stole the show from the likes of Dustin Hoffman and Warren Beatty!! He also stole the show from Robert Deniro in one of my guilty pleasures, Midnight Run. The amazing website Splitsider has compiled a number of appearances by Charles Grodin on the Late Night Show with Johnny Carson and the Late Show with David Letterman. These are amazing - see for yourself.

Let's Talk Bigfoot

It has been awhile since I've posted anything about bigfoot, and our conversation on the show this morning has prompted me to do just that. I found a great blog that collects only bigfoot news, videos and related stories. You can follow it here:

http://bigfootevidence.blogspot.com/

One of the best videos that I have seen in awhile can be found there. The video explains the circumstances surrounding the filming, so I won't go into great detail here. Have a look for yourself and see what you think.

This is another video that I found fascinating, and never knew it existed till I saw it here. It is from the infamous Patterson - Gimlin film, and shows the actual footprints on the sandbar of the creature they filmed that day. I had never seen this before.

If you have any favorite blogs or websites that you frequent for your bigfoot craving, please let us know. Write a comment below, or email us a link at shufflefunction@hotmail.com . Thanks and enjoy!!

HERE IS A CHRISTMAS STORY YOU MAY NEVER HAVE HEARD BEFORE - AD/BC

There are very few people on this planet with a voice the likes of Matt Berry.  I first fell under his spell when Shyboy Tim introduced me to the world of Garth Merenghei, and I will be a fan for life. For the past few days I have been without a satellite signal and relying on the on-lines and my DVD collection for entertainment. That is how I came across AD/BC on Network Awesome. During my Countdown To Halloween daily blogging I linked to Network Awesome a number of times. Believe you me, it is just as good as it's name would imply. So AD/BC has a lot of familiar faces if you are a fan of British Comedy - I will let you pick them out - but Matt Berry is simply amazing in this.

Follow this link to watch the entire show:

http://www.networkawesome.com/show/adbc/

It is the Christmas Story told from an angle new to me, and I am guessing new to you too, and it is a musical.  In this Rock Opera there are high notes hit so rocktastically awesome that you may shed a tear. A tear of joy, that is. So I won't dilly dally now, I want to watch part 3 of AD/BC and then I need to start getting ready to run the boards tomorrow morning on the 31st Anniversary of John Lennon's death. There is a lot at stake. I MUST NOT OLD BROWN SHOE IT (i.e. play a Beatles song that John didn't sing)!!

We're featuring music from the brand new Legendary Stardust Cowboy anthology this morning, and that has, of course, resulted in memories of the INCREDIBLE show KMSU threw in Mankato featuring The Fleshtones and The Ledge.  We hope you were there, but we know that many of you couldn't make it.  For those of you that couldn't, and for those of you that may only have hazy memories of that night, you need to click on this link to see photos from the entire day.  From airport to airport, from in store performances to Dark Knights on the sidewalk, the whole saga unfolds HERE!

MAKE YOUR FAVORITE LEGENDARY COWBOY HAPPY

It's that time of year folks - CARD SHOWER TIME. Every holiday season we ask our listeners to include The Legendary Stardust Cowboy on your Christmas Card list. The Ledge doesn't have any family nearby and spends his holidays alone. We want to make sure that he is busy all day long reading cards and letters from his fans. Please make a cowboy happy and send him your season's greetings to the following address:

Norman Carl Odam
Legendary Stardust Cowboy
P.O. Box 730742
San Jose, Ca.
95173

If you are feeling adventurous, include a self addressed envelope with your card. We can't promise that you'll get a reply, but you never know! Maybe bring your card in to work and have all of your co-workers sign it too. Or bring a card to your next party and have everyone sign it. The more the better folks and thank you Radio Heroes!

REMINDER: ADAM WEST RULES!

WHERE CAN YOU GET THE NEW LEDGE ALBUM?

It is appearing that U.S. distribution for the new Legendary Stardust Cowboy anthology is pretty much non-existent.  I had an order cancelled, Shelley's is delayed, and even The Ledge himself said it will be bumped until the first quarter of NEXT YEAR.  Not cool.

However...

In a fit of frustration, I went to cherryred.co.uk, which is the website for The Ledge's UK label.  Lo and behold, IT IS AVAILABLE THERE!  Now, the pound to dollar exchange rate is outrageous, and it is international shipping, but I just got an e-mail saying my order shipped.  So... if you cannot wait (as I clearly could not) then this may be your best bet for now.  It would probably also help The Ledge out if you ordered it directly from the label, so they can see the response immediately.

NOVEMBER 9TH: TURN ME ON DEAD MAN

Tomorrow morning we are going to blow your minds, faithful radio listeners.  We plan on diving deep into the intrigue and conspiracy of whether or not Paul McCartney died in a car accident November 9, 1966.

We have been gathering clues from album covers and listening to backward messages to make (or break) the case for McCartney's death. We're both pretty skeptical people, but  this debate is both fascinating and entertaining at the same time. Perhaps my favorite bit of sleuthing on the Internet this afternoon comes from the following you tube clips. It is a documentary film from the Netherlands made in 2005, and it involves those who were at ground zero of this argument.

Part 1 of Who Buried Paul McCartney?

Part 2 of Who Buried Paul McCartney?

Part 3 of Who Buried Paul McCartney?

Tomorrow morning we plan on elaborating upon the clues found on the various album covers of The Beatles. We realize that you might not all have vinyl copies available to play along with at home, so we want to make life easy for you. Here are the album covers for you to refer to as we discuss them, beginning with Help!

Rubber Soul

Revolver

Yesterday and Today - the Butcher Cover

and amended Trunk Cover

Oldies.....but Goldies

Sgt. Peppers Lonely Heart Club Band

Magical Mystery Tour Front Cover

Magical Mystery Tour Back Cover

The Beatles (White Album) and Insert

Yellow Submarine

Abbey Road Front Cover

Abbey Road Back Cover

Let It Be

There. That should help. If you want close-ups of some of the details we will be discussing , we highly recommend this web site. On the left hand side click on Album Cover Clues, and then click on the album you are interested in.

Tomorrow morning we have a lot of audio surprises in store for you, and we will DEFINITELY be playing some records backwards again! Get ready to be knocked on your McCartney loving butts!

IT WAS 45 YEARS AGO TODAY... ER, TOMORROW!

It's the 45th anniversary of the death of Paul McCartney this Wednesday, and we'll be tearing the lid off this global conspiracy all morning long on Shuffle Function. Get ready for loads of clues and backwards messages, as well as a plethora of Beatles and "Paul" music.

To get you psyched up, here's a series of posts by iamphoney on youtube. The series is called Rotten Apple, and it presents a bunch of clues PROVING beyond the shadow of a doubt that Paul McCartney died in a car accident on November 9th, 1966, and was replaced by a look alike. GET INTO IT!
