WANT TO BE A MOVIE STAR?

If you tuned into this morning's Shuffle Function you heard our discussion with MSU Film Studies Professor Ashkan Soltani concerning open auditions this weekend to cast student films. If you are a movie geek or have always wanted a chance to jump in front of a movie camera - this is your opportunity. This Saturday and Sunday the Film Studies department is hosting an open audition from noon to 5 p.m. both days in the Centenial Student Union rooms 202 and 203. What makes this special is that you don't have to have any prior acting experience to participate. They are interested in building up an actor data base for local film makers to utilize when casting their films. If you have a headshot, resume and memorized monologue that may make you stand out in the crowd - but all of that isn't necessary either! They will provide anything that you may need to complete your audition. They are looking for all ages, looks, sizes, etc. to populate their films. For more information on this great opportunity contact Ash at ashkan.soltani@mnsu.edu  or head over to their facebook page here.

Just a heads up - I call dibs on the Barbara monologue from this scene in Night Of The Living Dead!!

R.E.M. R.I.P.

R.E.M. is no more!  They announced on their website that it is time to call it quits.  While it has probably been a decade since I've seriously followed their career, they have been part of the soundtrack of my life, and their music triggers a lot of memories.

Thursday on the show we're gonna go full on R.E.M., so don't be bashful if you have any songs you wanna hear.  They meant a lot to a lot of people, and that includes the gang at Shuffle Function.  Thirty years is impressive for any relationship, let alone a creative life in the spotlight.  Nice work, fellas.

GRIND-FU THIS SATURDAY! FREE!

GRIND-FU CINEMA PRESENTS
SHE DEVILS ON WHEELS
AND
THE HELLCATS!

Saturday, September 24th @ 7:00pm
Wiecking 220 Auditorium
on the campus of
Minnesota State University, Mankato

FREE!  FREE!  FREE!  FREE!  FREE!

Can it be?  The last Saturday of September is bringing us the second to last Grind-Fu Cinema of 2011?  HORROR!  Grind-Fu is always such a blast, and we get pretty upset when the end of the season ends.  That's why we have to make every last one count, and this one counts because it is filled with BIKER CHICK MOVIES!

On Saturday, September 24th, Grind-Fu Cinema presents our first ever double feature of BIKER MOVIES!  We start the evening with She Devils On Wheels, by one of our favorite exploitation directs, Mr. Herschell Gordon Lewis!  There isn't a genre that he didn't cover, and this is his only leap into the biker genre.  See biker women that ride their men like they ride their bikes:  HARD!

The second film of the day is The Hellcats, and that one also delivers!  If this one sounds familiar, that may be because Mystery Science Theater once tore it to shreds!  Does that mean it isn't worth watching?  Hell no.  It means it was meant for Grind-Fu Cinema!

The fun begins at 7:00pm in Wiecking 220 Auditorium, on the campus of Minnesota State University, Mankato, and as always.... GRIND-FU IS FREE!  Bring your friends, bring snacks and sodas, bring blankets (because it can get chilly) and settle in for a DOUBLE FEATURE of awesome cinema!

I'm the new boy in town!  Where can I go?

LIFTED FROM DANGEROUS MINDS!

A while back I posted a bunch of amazing stuff that I found on dangerousminds.net, and the amazingness hasn't let up.  This is something that is pretty old, but I wanted to post it for the folks out there that haven't seen it.

The Dark Side of Oz from Bryan Pugh on Vimeo.

Personally, I think when you sync Dark Side to The Wizard Of Oz you get some interesting moments, but mostly you would have to be baked to freak out about it. BTW, stay in school and don't do drugs, kids!

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 19th: TALK LIKE A PIRATE DAY!

INTERNATIONAL TALK LIKE A PIRATE DAY
MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 19th

Despite the toll it takes on our voices, Shuffle Function will be celebrating Talk Like A Pirate Day during the entire morning show!  This is something we've done every year since the morning show started, and it's always a lot of fun.  TLAPD is more than simply talking like a pirate, however.  There are rules, and they must be followed by EVERYONE:

  • If you request any music by phone (507-389-5678 or 1-800-456-7810) YOU MUST TALK LIKE A PIRATE!  Failure to use a pirate voice will result in an inability for us to understand just what the heck you are talking about, and we will be unable to acknowledge what it is that you want to hear.
  • If you request any music via e-mail (shufflefunction@hotmail.com) YOU MUST WRITE LIKE A PIRATE!  Failure to use pirate verbage in your text will result in our inability to read what it is that you are saying, and we will be unable to acknowledge your request.
Other than that, no problems.  Join us on Monday, September 19th, as we celebrate INTERNATIONAL TALK LIKE A PIRATE DAY!

FRANK AND JUDY CRUNCH TIME NEEDS YOUR HELP

Wednesday night is my Fantasy Football draft night - and I could use a little help. I realize we are not a sports talk radio show - but I am guessing that there are a few football fanatics in the crowd. Let me know who your dream team is for this football year - if you could have anyone on your team who would it be? Basically I need a great quarterback, a couple of star running backs, and my weak point the last few years - some healthy wide receivers. I can figure out a tight end, kicker and defense. You can email me your suggestions at shufflefunction@hotmail.com or head over to facebook and the Shuffle Function page. You can leave a comment there or here. I appreciate your help - my teams have not been really good the last few years and I could use your help. I am great at coming up with team names, but not so good at picking players who stay healthy. Thanks for your help Radio Heroes!! Shelley

Cults - Go Outside

We played this song on the show today. You probably have seen the video already, since it was quite an interweb splash when it came out, but here it is if you haven't. Good stuff. Here's news footage about Jonestown, in case you aren't familiar with the story.

LEGENDARY STARDUST BIRTHDAY BOY!

HEY, KIDS! GUESS WHO HAS A BIRTHDAY THIS MONDAY?
THE LEGENDARY
STARDUST COWBOY!

For years, Shuffle Function and KMSU listeners have give The Ledge lots of love. Every September we've asked that folks send him birthday greetings, and every December we've asked that folks send him Holiday greetings. Well, September is right around the corner... you get the drift.

Here's his address:

Norman Odam
The Legendary Stardust Cowboy
PO Box 730742
San Jose, CA 95173

PUT LOTS OF STARS ON THE ENVELOPE!

If you'd like a response, include a self addressed stamped envelope. We can't guarantee he'll write back, but he's sent folks some interesting stuff in the past.

Thanks alot. You're gonna make The Ledge's day.
