REASON TO GO TO GRIND-FU: ANN SAVAGE

I just watched Detour last night to make sure everything was ready for Grind-Fu on the 25th, and I was knocked on my butt by one of those performances that will leave the audience stunned.  Like Arch Hall Jr. in The Sadist stunned.  Ann Savage's performance as Vera is a special kind of intense.  If Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction and Gena Rowlands in A Woman Under The Influence had a baby, it would be Ann Savage in Detour.  This is the stuff nightmares are made of. In fact, in 2007 Time magazine called her performance of Vera one of the top ten movie villains of all time, and Wim Wenders said her performance was 30 years ahead of its time.  True stuff.
