|Senor Beardo (before the beard) and Shelley|
We are now less than a week a way from kicking off our 11th Shuffle Function 24 hour Pledge Drive A-Go-Go, which means it is now time to pass along the agenda for the marathon. If you have never joined us for this event before, it is really pretty simple. Shyboy Tim and I love KMSU so much that we are willing to whatever it takes, even if it involves a grandly stupid gesture like staying awake for 24 hours straight on the air pleading with our listeners to financially support their favorite community radio station. We survive on great music, strong coffee, and the phones ringing off the hook with pledge calls.
|Bob, Lou, and Michael McD want your pledges!!|
6 p.m. April 25th
9 p.m. April 25th
Shuffle Function Radio Roulette
We pile all the K-Tel records into the studio and pass control of the show's play-list to the Radio Gods. K-Tel records are our source material, and we use a magic hat, ten sided dice and a quarter to determine which songs get played. If you pledge during this hour you can pick a number and play Radio Roulette yourself!
We play the the Velvet Underground's Sister Ray in it's entirety. This only happens once a year folks, so don't miss it.
2 a.m. April 26th
Jandek: Sounds of Insomnia
The perfect time of night to explore the discography of Jandek. This will be the first marathon since Jandek came to Mankato, which will mean that Shyboy Tim and I will probably wax a bit nostalgic as well. We recommend that you turn off the lights and listen in the dark. If his music has never clicked with you, give it a chance at this witching hour and you may have a change of heart.
3 a.m. April 26th
We play Iron Butterfly's In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida in it's glorious entirety on sweet sweet vinyl.
4 a.m. April 26th
Sunrise with Sun Ra Hour with Cosmic Slim
This is a new addition to the marathon line-up and one we couldn't be more excited about. Gary Campbell, aka Cosmic Slim, aka Maverick Slim, aka AWESOME KMSU RADIO HOST! will be joining us in the studio and he is in control of the play-list. If you have never heard Sun Ra before, than this may be the best place for you to start.
6 to 10 a.m. April 26th
all vinyl morning hour
We only spin vinyl records during these four hours - which doesn't sound like much, but it is easily some of the busiest and active part of the KMSU Pledge Drive. Shyboy Tim and I take turns picking out records and geeking out about why we love hosting a radio show. Both of us cut our teeth on our parent's record collections and so this is a blast for us.
And just a heads up - at 7:45 a.m. we will do the McArthur Park Sing- A-Long. You are all invited to join us for that. Bring your singing voice, an instrument and all of your friends and family!!
12 noon April 26th
Shuffle Function Radio Roulette
Round two of testing our luck and turning over the play-list to random fate. It might be great, it might be horrific, we won't know until we see how it shakes out. If you pledge during this hour you can pick a number and participate in Radio Roulette too!
2 to 4 p.m. April 26th
Radio Karaoke with your host Club Carl
This was a big hit last year and so we decided to bring it back and add on an extra hour to boot!! KMSU radio hosts will be participating - but you can too. If you come up to the station and make a pledge you can pick out a song from the booklet and sing live on the air. This is a blast - and if you ask nicely or pledge even nicer Gully will sing your requests too!
6 p.m. April 26th
Twenty-four hours is up and we have to literally call it a day. We call it quits and head home to collapse!!
I know I have said this quite a lot on the air, but we sure hope you can join us for all of these great events, and we sure hope you are saving up your coins and paper money to help KMSU out. If you have any questions - ask us this Saturday at Record Store Day, or Grind-Fu Cinema, or Intergalactic Bacon Day or World Book Day.
