Two Dozen Days left to Halloween

Shyboy Tim and Scooter Polanski at Grind-Fu Cinema past
Our final Grind-Fu Cinema event of the year is coming up fast Shuffle Functioneers. On October 26th  we celebrate Halloween with two films we think will scare you and make you laugh your Halloween costumed arses off. Our double bill is TUCKER & DALE VS EVIL and THE CABIN IN THE WOODS. What do these two films have in common other than they are awesome? Any guesses? All right I'll tell you - a cabin!

You do not have to be an expert in the horror film genre to know that if a cabin is involved in a film more than likely it is cursed, haunted, evil incarnate or all of the above. One notable exception is On Golden Pond, but even that place was haunted by a giant fish. This years Grind-Fu Cinemas flicks both center around cabins, but each of them stray far afield from your classic scary movie cliches. Over the years Shyboy Tim and I have chosen some of the most frightening films ever made for our October Grind-Fus, but this year we have chosen some very frightening AND funny films for you all to enjoy.

The first film of the night is Tucker & Dale vs Evil. It starts at 7 p.m.

Tucker & Dale vs Evil was a cult classic the second it graced it's first movie screen. If you have never before seen it, then you are going to laugh and scream yourselves silly. If you have seen it then you already know that you will be laughing and screaming yourself silly. Tucker and Dale buy a remote cabin located in woods that have a violent past. While they try to fix up their new home, they become the focus of a deadly comedy of errors and misconceptions. I cannot wait to watch this with our Grind-Fu Cinema crowd.

We serve cake during intermission, and not just a plain Jane sheet cake but an amazing cake made by award winning decorator Amber. I will be doing a post on past Grind-Fu Halloween cakes closer to October 26th, but these cakes are not to be missed.

The second film of the night is The Cabin In The Woods.

This movie has so many great posters I couldn't decide on just one! There is so much to love about this movie I don't know where to start. When we decided on these two films and I called the distributor to reserve them he flipped out at this double bill. Both are frightening and yet hilarious all at once. Cabin In The Woods is the brain child of Joss Whedon, which also made it an automatic cult classic. The classic "college kids go to remote cabin and finds it haunted" storyline gets turned on it's head with this one - and you will never guess where it is going.

This is going to be a lot of fun - and you are all invited to join us. Everyone is encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes to Grind-Fu Cinema. We will also have trick or treat candy for movie goers. As usual, we will be screening these great movies at the Wiecking 220 Auditorium on the campus of Minnesota State University Mankato. You can follow the parking signs to the back parking lot. If you have never been before, here is a map for you to follow.

October 26th can't get here soon enough!!
