TEN YEARS OF RADIO AND NOT ENOUGH SLEEP: THE GALLERY

Today marks the tenth anniversary of the Shuffle Function morning show.  It's hard to believe I've been getting up so freaking early for that long, so in honor of that I slept in until about ten this morning.  It was glorious.

The above image is one of the first posters we had printed up for the show.  It was pretty big, and it yelled our love of vinyl and b-movie culture all over the community.  Digging through the ol' digital archives brought back a lot of memories from the last ten years.  I'm not a nostalgic guy, but I'm proud of what we've done with the show, and I'm proud of what KMSU has become over the last 10+ years.  It's a great station full of great people, and I'm still amazed that I get to play radio with them.

I'd listen to that show.

Shelley and I were really freaked out about having to do a live show every day, so I think she ran the boards the first week and I did the second week.  After that we've been alternating every day since.  I remember the first few weeks I would stop at Kwik Trip and buy newspapers and energy drinks just because we were so worried about falling asleep or running out of stuff to say.  We quickly found out that a planned show sounds like a planned show, and gradually weaned ourselves from all that planning so that we'd be flying by the seat of our pants.  It's much more fun that way.

The one thing that EVERYBODY was telling us was that we had to have bits planned, but bits are for commercial radio.  To please EVERYBODY we set up a bit board in the office (I wish we had a picture) and tacked note cards to it that said "bit" on them.  No thanks, bits!

Anyway.  KMSU has given us both a tremendous opportunity to be creative and have fun on the air, and we're eternally grateful for that.  We're especially grateful to you guys, for being such amazing, thoughtful, and generous supporters.  You've helped shape this show and the station, and you've done great work.

In honor of the anniversary, here are a bunch of old posters and graphics and stuff that we've come up with since the show started. And don't forget to go to GRIND FU CINEMA TONIGHT!  It's a special 3D double feature, and you get to keep the glasses!  Bring your own snacks and friends,  because it's FREE!
