KMSU RECORD PARTY: BETTER LIVING THROUGH RADIO!

Fancy graphics by Grandpa Tom (of Grandpa Tom and Grandma Chantill fame)

WOW.  What an amazing night of radio!  If you listened to KMSU this evening you heard four hours worth of true believers geeking out about music and how special KMSU is to the community.  If the end total is any indication, you guys are just as geeky about KMSU and music as we are!

When the Record Party started at six p.m. KMSU was just over the $30,000 mark for total pledges from listeners.  THANK YOU FOR THAT!  With three days left in the drive, $30,000 is an excellent place to be.  Still, staring down $10,000 is more than a little scary.  If there's one thing we've learned in all our years of radio, it's that you never ever doubt KMSU listeners.

Immediately after the show started, we received an amazing matching grant from AMPERS, the public educational radio organization that KMSU is a part of.  You hear them mentioned throughout the day when we do our station IDs.  The matching grant was for $3000, which meant that if we raised $3000 in pledges from our listeners, AMPERS would match that dollar for dollar.  That would mean we could raise $6000, but this would only happen if we raised our half by ten p.m.

As the night rolled on, the calls slowly started coming in.  With 20 minutes left we were still about $1200 away from the goal, but as tense as it was  for us we never gave up hope.  With five minutes left it was down to the last $400, and with one minute left we only needed $70.  And then we made it.

KMSU raised $3000 in four hours, which became $6000 thanks to AMPERS!  Even better, this puts the station at $36,000, which is THE HIGHEST AMOUNT EVER RAISED DURING PLEDGE DRIVE!  EVER BETTER BETTER, IT PUTS US WITHIN $4000 OF MEETING THE FULL $40,000 GOAL!  Sorry about all the yelling, but man!  This is really exciting!

We have two days left of the 2014 Spring Pledge Drive, and we need to raise that last $4000 by the end of the day on Friday.  If you haven't pledged yet, please consider doing so.  We're SO CLOSE to hitting that total goal, and we need to meet it.  We need to get that transmitter!

Call 507-389-5678 or 1-800-456-7810 and pledge your support.  There's only two days left, you guys, and we know that we can do this.  Together we make great radio.

Shyboy

Matching Grant challenge is in effect!!!

We need to raise $3,000 by 10 pm folks! Ampers will match your pledge dollar for dollar up to 3,000. We have to do this Shuffle Functioneers!! That will get us sooooooo close to ending the pledge drive!! Please call and make your pledge at 389-5678 or 1-800-456-7810!!

ONE MAN, ONE DUMMY, ONE NIGHT, ONE LAST SHOT!

This is where it all started folks. Pictured above is a young Shyboy Tim and his ventriloquist doll Simon. Last year we joked around about the possibility of Tim doing a "one man show" with Simon and at some point the "Many Loves Of Shyboy Tim" became connected with it as well. Tim has been against the idea of ever doing something like this, but at the end of last years Shuffle Function 24 Hour Pledge Drive A-Go-Go he said he would "consider it" if we managed to make the Springtime goal during the marathon. We came close, but it didn't happen. Primarily because he didn't agree to the idea until way too late in the game.

BUT THIS YEAR IS A WHOLE NEW BALL GAME !!!

Shyboy Tim has agreed from the get go to the following terms:

IF WE RAISE THE FINAL $10,000 BY TEN P.M. WEDNESDAY NIGHT, TIM WILL "STAR IN" ONE PUBLIC PERFORMANCE OF 'ONE MAN, ONE DUMMY, ONE NIGHT'.

Now, this isn't going to be easy folks (and I think that is why he agreed to the terms to be honest with you). Last year we had the largest goal ever for the Spring Pledge Drive and we had to struggle mightily to reach it, taking almost the full two weeks to do it. This year's goal is $5,000 dollars more than last years. Even if you aren't good at math, like me, you can see this is not going to be easy. BUT I HAVE LEARNED OVER THE YEARS THAT KMSU LISTENERS ARE THE BEST IN THE WORLD - AND THEY CAN MOVE MOUNTAINS! It is going to be a tough haul and the odds are long, but this could happen. I think it can!

YOU KNOW THAT SHYBOY TIM WOULD NEVER AGREE TO DO SOMETHING LIKE THIS - UNLESS IT WAS FOR A CAUSE HE CARED DEEPLY ABOUT. KMSU IS THAT CAUSE.

Let me tell you a little bit about the show - just so you can see why I am excited at the possibility of it. ONE MAN, ONE DUMMY, ONE NIGHT would consist of Shyboy Tim and his ventriloquist dummy Simon talking about the numerous "Many Loves Of Shyboy Tim" that have populated our radio show blog and radio conversations over the years. I anticipate slide shows, I anticipate laughs and I know that Mankato's own The Frye are down for performing as well. Maybe we will even write a duet for Shyboy Tim and Simon to perform with The Frye!! How awesome would that be to see??!!!! There will be tears there will be laughs and there will be music - and that's just from Shyboy Tim.

We have to make $10,000 by ten p.m. Wednesday night to make this dream a reality Shuffle Functioneers!

Be sure to call and make your pledge of support to KMSU. The phone numbers are
389 - 5678
or
1 - 800 - 456 - 7810.

You can also text us your pledge at 389 - 5678, just include your name, mailing address, and pledge amount.

If you want to drop us an email with that information you can do so at shufflefunction@hotmail.com

STATE OF THE STATION: THREE DAYS AND $10,000 TO GO!

We're in the home stretch for the pledge drive right now, and we have just under ten grand to raise.  This is a pretty intimidating number to stare down, but we know that KMSU has the best listeners in the world. You guys gotten us this far with your incredible generosity, and for that we are forever grateful.  You've done your part to insure that KMSU is moving into a stable place, and that our major goal of getting a new transmitter is becoming a reality.  Again, THANK YOU!

We know that there are some of you out there that haven't yet pledged.  Life is busy and filled with stuff, if I may paraphrase Lux Interior.  KMSU knows that as well as anybody.  This station lives pledge drive to pledge drive, and like many people it seems we're always one transmitter failure away from trouble.  I mean, you guys don't deal with transmitters, but... well... anyway...

If you haven't pledged yet, please consider doing so!  We're SO CLOSE to hitting that goal, and with under three days to go in the drive it's a little intimidating.  Even if you can only spring a little bit of cash, you're making a big difference.  A lot of people chipping in adds up fast.  Every river begins with a stream, you know?

Call us at 507-389-5678 or 1-800-456-7810 and pledge your support.  We have a lot of cool swag (and right now we have some great stuff from Best of Broadway, like tickets and showtune recordings) that will make your life a little more fun.  So give us a hollar and we'll talk to you then.

Thanks again, Radio Heroes!

KMSU 89.7fm/KMSK 91.3fm/kmsu.org

 CALL US AT
507-389-5678 or 1-800-456-7810

Any amount makes a difference!  Ten bucks is as major as $100 or $1000!  It all goes to the same place, you guys.  We have a long way to go before we hit the $40,000 milestone, and we need all your help. If you haven't pledged yet, please consider doing so.  Thanks for being the greatest listeners in the world!

THE SWAG!

We're up against the biggest goal we've ever faced, and we're desperately counting on you folks to chip in and help us keep KMSU on the air!  As you have no doubt heard, and will continue to hear, KMSU desperately needs to raise money to get a new transmitter.  The one we have is on its last legs and we can't even get new parts for it.  Without your financial support we cannot continue to bring you the unique local programming you've come to know and love, and we won't be able to get the necessary gear we need to keep broadcasting.  Keep in mind that not only do your pledges help keep us on the air, but they also act as a vote of confidence in the station, and the university notices these things.  It shows the folks that run the show that we're valued by you and that we're an asset to the community.

Any amount makes a huge difference, but we have some great swag available at different pledge levels to hopefully nudge you towards making a contribution.  And now...
