A GREAT SHORT FILM FROM FORMER KATO GUY
FROM THE 'THIS IS REALLY COOL' DEPARTMENT: The Shuffle Function Morning Show has been on the air for almost eleven years, and we've met some great folks in that time. They come and they go, and every once in a while we'll cross paths with them after some time has passed and get a chance to catch up. It's pretty cool.
One of the folks we've met is Travis Calvert. Back in the day we used to call Travis 'Ram'. I'm not entirely sure why at this point, but my gut tells me it has something to do with Harvey Sid Fisher. Travis has had an extraordinary opportunity recently, and my gut tells me that you guys will really love it. He entered a contest run by Jameson Whiskey to write and direct a short film. Three finalists were chosen to make their film, which would star Adrien Brody and be produced by Kevin Spacey's Trigger Street Productions. As luck would have it, Travis was one of the three finalists.
One of the great things about Facebook (hint: it's not selfies) is that sometimes you're able to hear about really amazing things that happen in people's lives, and Travis was kind enough to share bits and pieces of his experience making the film. It has been interesting, and FINALLY the world has the opportunity to see what he came up with.
Travis' film is called The Library Book, and it takes place in a small library that is going to close because it has lost funding. I don't want to tell you any more than that, because what happens in this film is pretty wonderful. In a world that is all ME ME ME, Travis' film makes you really want more US.
The film had its big premiere just last week and now it's on YouTube for us to watch and share. I hope you guys like it. Travis dun good, right?
FUN FACT: The song heard at the end of the film is by Mankatoan Dave Begalka!
