LOG LADY RIP: CATHERINE COULSON PASSES AWAY AT 71
Twin Peaks fans around the world are mourning the passing of Catherine Coulson, longtime David Lynch collaborator and the actress best known as The Log Lady. Catherine passed away at the age of 71 after battling cancer. This is certainly heavy news to hear just as production has begun on new episodes of Twin Peaks, and she would most certainly have been a significant player in these episodes.
Catherine Coulson began working with Lynch in 1974 when she starred in his short film The Amputee. Later, along with her then husband Jack Nance, she worked with David Lynch on the film Eraserhead. It was as Margaret, the Log Lady on Twin Peaks, that she gained her greatest fame.
The documentary I Don't Know Jack, about the crazy life of Jack Nance, features Catherine Coulson prominently throughout. Jack and Catherine had a tempestuous relationship, and there are many stories of him angrily drawling her name. "Caaaaatherine". It's pretty funny stuff.
If you have an hour and a half to kill, watch I Don't Know Jack right now. It's pretty amazing.
