HAPPY HALLOWEEN SHUFFLE FUNCTIONEERS

Halloween is here! For a month we have been playing spokky music and gearing up for our favorite holiday, and here it is! Shyboy Tim and I hope you have a fun and safe Halloween night, and if you need a little soundtrack to play before going out, might I suggest these dance party videos.

Happy Halloween everyone -

Countdown To Halloween Blogpost #30

Let's Bowl fans will remember this classic Inside Bowling! I've said it before and I will say it again, if I had a bazillion dollars Let's Bowl would still be on TV. But you know I don't have that kind of cashola, because there would never be another Pledge Drive at KMSU! But I still miss watching Wally and Chopper.

What an amazing three days of Pledge Drive we have had! The goal for this Fall is $25,000 and as of 9 a.m. this morning we shot past the $15,000 mark! We cannot thank you enough for your financial support and your kind words. I have loved being able to chat with those calling in with their pledges, even if it is only for 3 or 4 minutes. You know that Tim and I love doing our radio show, and it is a blast to connect with our listeners. Thank you to all the Radio Heroes have pledged, and for those who haven't I encourage you to look over the list of Pledge Drive swag and call us on Monday!

Are you thinking about joining us on the KMSU Record Expedition? Maybe this short film by Tom Royer of the first Expedition will help you say "YES!"

For a $200 pledge you will get the brand new KMSU hoodie AND you will jump on the bus with us and go record shopping in the Twin Cities. It will take place all day on February 6th, and we sure would love to have you join us! If you have any questions - please don't hesitate to call us!

Countdown to Halloween Blogpost # 29

It is definitely the time of year to watch some scary movies, and I love that some of the classic films are available to watch on-line. This George Romero film I found to be frightening to some extent, but I found the remake to be truly spooky. Compare and contrast if you have never seen these before. Or if you are familiar with the remake you will definitely enjoy the original.

Tomorrow is our last day to play Halloween music. This month has flown by! We received word this afternoon that KMSU is more than half way towards meeting the Fall Pledge Drive goal of $25,000! This is amazing news given that we are only two days in. A big Thank You to all the Radio Heroes who have already pledged. If you have not given us a call yet - we can talk tomorrow morning on the show.

DON'T FORGET - TRICK OR TREATERS ARE

WELCOME FROM 6 TO 9 a.m. FRIDAY

MORNING DURING SHUFFLE FUNCTION.

PLEDGE DRIVE PROGRAMMING NOTES

The 2015 Fall Pledge Drive is underway!  Call 507-389-5678 or 1-800-456-7810 and pledge your support to 89.7 The Maverick!  There's a bunch of great swag that you can get as a thank you gift, so look it over and give us a call.  You can also pledge online at kmsu.org.

We have some special programming coming up during the pledge drive that you guys might be interested in, so take a look at this schedule and plan accordingly.

Thursday, October 29th @ 6:00pm - SHUFFLE FUNCTION RADIO ROULETTE

What's more terrifying for two radio control freaks than turning over their playlist to random chance? Lots of stuff, but as far as radio goes, there's nothing scarier.  That's why we always play Radio Roulette during the Halloween season.  We draw numbers, flip coins and roll dice to determine what gets played during the show, and since all the albums are Ktel compilations it's a veritable minefield.  There's a lot of great stuff on these records, but there's also a TON of terrible stuff, too.  The radio gods pick our playlist, so it could either be the best or worst radio you've ever heard.

How did this show turnout?  You're gonna have to tune in to find out.  Hope you like French Canadian music!

Friday, October 30th from 6-9a.m - THE PURPLE KNIF SHOW!

This is a Shuffle Function Halloween tradition.  Since The Cramps are basically the house band for Halloween, and because we like to make a big deal out of the holiday, we're playing Lux Interior's Purple Knif Show.  Sometime in 1984 Lux Interior took over a radio station in Hollywood and played the songs that informed The Cramps.  There's some real gems on this show, including some songs that the band covered, and Lux does it up big with old school DJ tricks.  It's a blast, and, as one listener pointed out. it's a record on the radio of Lux Interior playing records on the radio.  MIND BLOWN.

Friday, November 6th from 6-9a.m. - POLKA TIL YOU PUKE!

THREE HOURS POLKA ON THE RADIO?!!! YES!  AND YOU'RE WELCOME!  We've been doing Polka Til You Puke as part of the Fall Pledge Drive since we started the morning show over a decade ago, and it has become a beloved tradition.  Polka is party music, and it turns out it's also pledging music, because we hear from so many amazing listeners who step up during this show and give generously.  We'll be joined by Concertina Hall Of Famer Ambrose Kodet, as well as professional polka fan Maude, for three hours of good time music and lots of laughs.

CALL NOW AND PLEDGE!
507-389-5678 OR 1-800-456-7810
OR PLEDGE ONLINE @ KMSU.ORG

COUNTDOWN TO HALLOWEEN BLOGPOST #28: A SPOOKY SHUFFLE FUNCTION PLAYLIST

Looking for some creepy tunes to make your Halloween season a little weird?  Robb Murray from the Free Press runs a website called Playlist Playground, and he asks folks from around the community to submit ten song playlists around certain themes.  This month he asked us to come up with some Halloween sounds to throw your way.  The songs are probably familiar to anyone that listens to to the show regularly, but here we add a few random thoughts about each of them.

Hope you like what you hear!

Sleepy Countdown to Halloween Blog Post #27

It is KMSU Fall Pledge Drive Eve, and I couldn't be more excited about sharing my love for the station with our listeners in the morning. I am going to drink a Hot Toddy, as Maverick Slim suggested would help with my bad cold, and hit the hay so that I will be ready to roll. Don't forget those phone numbers Shuffle Functioneers. Need a little hint?

call or text (507) 389 - 5678

Now let's play a little game I'm going to call "WHO IS SPOOKIER?"

It's a pretty simple game. I will share a few photos of some classic movie ghouls, and you choose the creepiest, spookiest, scariest one. Leave a comment under the post, and we will see who wins. Okay, let's give it a go -

 Number 1

A Clockwork Orange

Number 2

Psycho

Number 3

The Exorcist

Number 4

The Shining

Number 5

Magic

It's a tough choice! What do you think?

See you all in the morning,

Shelley

Countdown to Halloween Blog Post #26 - Bric A Brac

This song was requested this morning by listener Joel, and I had to admit that I didn't have it. We are always on the look out for new Halloween songs to add to the collection, and today I found some.

Tim and I were recently asked to throw together a Halloween playlist, and while researching a few of my favorites, I found a reference to another couple of dark country tunes I'd not heard before. Here is two disturbing ditties by Porter Wagoner and Johnny Paycheck.

Speaking of new things (awkward transition), have you seen the trailer for Ash Vs. Evil Dead yet? Holy Crapoly does it look good!!!

I can't wait to watch this series!

Shelley

INCREDIBLE NEW KELLEY STOLTZ MUSIC MAKES YOU GLAD YOU HAVE EAR HOLES IN YOUR HEAD!

Speaking of living in a golden age, we have THREE new Kelley Stoltz releases on the horizon in the next few weeks.  See this previous post for details!  We now have a new song from the EP Four New Cuts coming out on Stroll On Records.  Is it any good?  I'll give you one guess, as long as your answer is HELL YES.

Kelley friggin' Stoltz, you guys.  The world is a better place with his music in it.
