How does one follow a popular series like the UK version of The Office? You come up with an equally funny show called Extras, and you pack it with unexpected celebrity cameos. Early in the second season we see Ricky Gervais' character on the cusp of fame, with his television series premiering to harsh reviews. He's starting to get recognized on the street and in bars, so when he visits a pub he's able to get into the VIP section. Who else gets into the VIP section? DAVID BOWIE.
Gervais and Bowie begin to share some small talk, and Gervais starts to talk about how he's unhappy with the way the series is going. After going on a while about this, Bowie gets a farway look in his eyes and begins improvising a song. What follows is one of the funniest things I've ever seen on television.
PS: Have I mentioned lately that we're playing the new Bowie album on tomorrow's show? Because we are.
