'JANDEK: SOUNDS OF INSOMNIA' IS WHEN IT ALL MAKES SENSE

JANDEK: SOUNDS OF INSOMNIA
during the 24 Hour Pledge Drive A-Go-Go

Friday, April 28th @ 2:00 a.m.
KMSU 89.7 fm/KMSK 91.3 fm/kmsu.org

Jandek is a divisive artist.  You either love him or hate him, and there's not a lot of ground for indifference.  For a long time I found the music of Jandek to be completely incomprehensible. I couldn't connect with it on any level.  Then, one day, it all made sense.  I broke down and ordered everything that Corwood industries had available on CD.  The label in the picture is from that original box of 40 or so CDs, but the total number of Jandek songs is probably closer to 80 now.  He's nothing if not prolific.

For quite a while now we've had a feature of the Shuffle Function 24 Hour Pledge Drive A-Go-Go called Jandek: Sounds Of Insomnia.  From two to three a.m. we dedicate a full hour of airtime to the mysterious and haunting world of Jandek.  Two a.m. is the perfect time to discover this music.  It seems to exist in a haunted sleepless world, one where you've been up all night, and you have an electrical insomniac charge making your body tingle.  You know that world?  That's the world where it all makes sense.

We hope you'll join us for an hour of Jandek on Friday, April 28th at two a.m., and we hope that you'll pledge for a station that plays artists as adventurous as this.  Also, if you are up and listening, please let us know what you think.  We've heard from people over the years that have said it finally makes sense, and I love that. It has been said that Mankato is home to a "weird" Jandek cult, and Shuffle Function wears that as a badge of honor.  KMSU listeners are just that awesome.
